1 3/8 Mile Turf Stake Purse $300.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
I said in the write up for this race that we shouldn’t mistake it for a real life race and made two predictions based on this as a computer game and this as a real life horse race. Sure enough the computer game part won out with three year olds filling the top 4 places, a turf preference jockey winning, first and second both being beaten on the free track and bought to become startling improvers and a wide draw going to the front and weakening. If only life was as predictable as this horse racing sim.
So here’s how Mb Stables took two horses from the lowest racing level and in just a few months turned them into a grade one winner and a grade one runner up despite starting the year being beaten in free track claimers.
1st Bobs Ticket Mb Stables Garcia Mar
When this horse was claimed after being beaten in a free track claimer his last turf work as a two year old was 1.35 and 1 for the mile. Roll forward 6 months and his last mile work on the grass after placing in graded company on the dirt was 1.34 and 4, not much more than normal improvement as the horse aged. So there wasn’t any startling improvements to be seen other than maybe a change to instructions so you have to assume this was another of those diamonds in the rough running down the grades waiting to be snapped up by a trainer with the time and skill to spot it and the money to enter it at a higher level. That has been Mb’s winning formula for a while now and he once again proved this game is not only about breeding and horse racing but as much about knowing how to play this computer game with all its very own little traits.
Taken back early he made good ground with a half mile to run and in the end ran out a fairly easy winner by two lengths. On the evidence of this effort and carrying all the advantages that HRP provides i am sure he will go on to be a live BC contender in November.
2nd Tonys Aprill Thrill Mb Stables Beschizza A
When this horse worked 1.09 and 4 for the turf 6 furlongs back in January it was clear that he was either a morning glory or a potential stakes horse. His first two efforts of the year on the free track had him looking like a morning glory but when he finally stepped up and won a free track claimer on the dirt and then worked 1.34 and 2 for the turf mile it was clear he had found his groove. As happens most of the time the person that found this diamond in the rough was Mb Stables and sure enough here he is in his first run for the new trainer finishing second at grade one level.
3rd Black Horizon Maxmillion Farm Gutierrez Mario
The turf king was out maneuvered here by the game king as their ten dollar purchase ran on nicely for third but never looked a likely winner. There is far more potential here so i expect him to find a black type race before long and it was fitting that he completed the trifecta of horses that were bred un-stylishly and bought cheaply.
4th Fuji Smokey Stover Tunon M
Tried to beat the draw by not going forward or backwards but instead sat a little wide just behind the speed. I wonder now after this run if he may need some cut in the track to repeat his stylish win in the MTH Stakes but we wont know until he gets a decent draw and the type of racing style he adopted in that race.
A loud bang rang out in the paddock after the race that had armed police scurrying and the crowds screaming and running for cover. It wasn’t however a terrorist attack but merely AER Stables shooting his $80 auction purchase before the sweat had dried on its coat. J Lezcano reported afterwards that he spent ten minutes with his leg trapped under the stricken horse as the trainer didn’t even wait for him to get off. AER Stables was released by police after the race and was taken away by a family member screaming about the fifth amendment and his right to shoot his horse whenever he wanted.
