KD Turf Sprint – Grade II [BC]
6 Furlongs Turf Stake Purse $2,000.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
1st Sorcerer Mb Stables Corrales G
Sitting back off a solid pace this four-year-old was too strong at the end, searing down the outside to grab a half-length win going away. Beaten at TAM, a winner in a LAD optional claimer, you could be forgiven in thinking that this one’s chances of winning a big race like this went with his three-year-old days when he contested routes in the hope of making at the KYD field. But after buying this one at auction for $125.000 from Fractious. Mb Stables has only run him over five furlongs or a mile on the turf in optional claimer company and whilst he had been running well you got the feeling that is not where he should’ve been.
The stunning work times finally looked like they were going to pay dividends when he took on Troy last time and ran home strongly to be a very close second. Today that extra half furlong was key, as that is where he really asserted himself and he looked very good today and may well be a late favorite for the BC Turf should he make that field.
Bred by Barcelona Farms he has raced 18 times for 6 wins, all of them being on the turf.
2nd Gorilla Glue Maxmillion Farm Gallardo A A
The trainer won’t be too disappointed with filling the next three finishing places, but it was a bit of a surprise that it was this one to lead the stable home. He really is an enigma, capable of brilliant efforts like this, he has never really strung the wins together that he seems to deserve but today he was right on song and very nearly pulled it off.
3rd Whoa Bo Maxmillion Farm Jimenez A
Stalking the fast pace from a wide gate is a very tough ask but he stuck to his guns really well only giving way to the late closers in the end. I am pretty sure that on another day with a different draw he could win a race like this, but these sprints really can be a lottery, and he did pretty well to take third place today.
4th Last Way To The Beac Maxmillion Farm Vives S
The old warrior forced himself to the front and really shouted come get me for most of the race. He stuck to his guns with all the guts or glory we are used to but, in the end, his old lungs just couldn’t get enough oxygen around the tiring muscles, and he had to settle for fourth only a length off the winner.
