1 1/4 Miles Dirt Stake Purse $1,000.000 Three-Year-Olds And Up. At DMR
1st Frenchman Threshold 22.45-1 (HRP) 8-1 (SRF)
Oh, there’s dancing on the desktops in the newsroom at SRF today as Frenchman scored his second straight big upset, and this time breaking the grade one barrier and the 1 1/4 mile barrier in one spectacular fell swoop. And you all thought I was just being sympathetic to a fellow writer when I placed him so high in my handicap… no, I was being a coward, actually. I was afraid of those barriers, but I told you Threshold had brought that horse back to the forefront. I just didn’t have the courage to bet how far back. Well, he looks the same horse as 2023;
2nd Wahpekute Sioux Mb Stables *2.35-1 (HRP) *3-1 (SRF)
Well, you were right to disregard that last out as a one-off flop and laugh in the face of fate that Wahpekute Sioux would not let down as in last year’s running of this race, and he gave it the kind of champion go that we’ve come to expect of this on-speed monster. He grabbed the lead out of the gate and was just schooling the field right up to the wire, and, frankly, the way Frenchman came down the stretch, I don’t think Wahpekute Sioux ever heard him coming.
3rd Everythings Fine TwinTowersRacing 21.55 (HRP) 8-1 (SRF)
Wait! I got that wrong, Everything’s Fine. I look at his form relative to this level and I think I just don’t think he can do it, but that’s what they thought at WO, AQU, ELP, etc. That’s TwinTowersRacing, he just keeps prodding at them and his horses keep producing. This was a superb grade one level come from behind run that came within a length of victory. Classic.
4th All Take Alydar Stables 2.85-1 (HRP) 4-1 (SRF)
I thought All Take was a big threat here, and I think he ran his race, finishing with courage, only missed by a length, sadly someone has to finish fourth.
