Shadwell Turf Mile (Grade 1) (BC)- $1,250.000 Purse
KEE- For Three Year Olds and Upward
One Mile on the Turf
October 4, 2025
While Seven Is Lucky may have been a 14/1 longshot in the Shadwell Turf Mile, he is no stranger to success in this race, having finished second two years ago. He’s been decent this year as well, but in this field, he would be lost in the shuffle with all of the talent around him. On Saturday, he showed he does not have to be lucky, but can be good on any day, stalking the pace and then coming home with the win. He is trained by Mb Stables, a trainer who has plenty of Shadwell trophies to display. This is his fifth such victory, with three coming in the last four years. G Corrales was aboard for his first win in the race. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:32.41, and here’s a look at it:
(1/4 Mile- :23.02)- Extravagant is the early leader, and the Bigchief Stables entry leads by a neck over the Nakamura Stables- trained Neon Lightning, who breaks well from the outside. Sick Boi will go five wide around the opening turn for Royalty Stables, as there are four of them to his inside that are within a length. Those are the ones that started in posts 1-4, so it’s Oh Brother on the rail for Spankys Barn, Jakarta in the second lane for Nakamura Stables, and our eventual winner from Mb Stables, Seven Is Lucky in the third lane. To his outside, it’s the Our Athletes- trained Hawaiian Lord. It’s another length to State Apples (Mb Stables), who’s running five wide even though he really doesn’t have to be. Cage Rage (Maxmillion Farm) is one lane further over, while Orange Man Awesome (Lanfranco Stable) takes a better lane on the rail. Next come Chagrin Falls (Mo Mentum Farm) and Poison Arrow (Mb Stables), who run evenly. At the back, are Bear Head (Maxmillion Farm), and then Misting (Winning Link Stables).
(½ Mile- :46.16)- Extravagant maintains a consistent stride down the backstretch as he still leads the way, and moving into second now is Sick Boi, who slips by Neon Lightning just as they reach the half mile point. There are still four stalking the pace behind them, and it is Seven Lucky with a head in front of the other three as he still runs in the third lane. No changes with who is right there with him, as Oh Brother and Jakarta are to his inside and Hawaiian Lord on the outside. Misting would come to life over the backstretch, using an outside trip to move into eighth. State Apples is no longer going to the far outside, and Cage Rage also would move over. Orange Man Awesome lost a bit of ground to those two. A length behind him, Poison Arrow and Chagrin Falls still keep each other company while Bear Head is at the back.
(Top of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- The turn sees a lot of moving around within the pack as the jockeys look for the best lanes to take in the stretch. Not needing to worry about that in the front of the field, Extravagant is still the race leader, and holds a length advantage. Behind him, it’s getting interesting, as Oh Brother pulls to the inside of both Sick Boi and Neon Lightning, looking to get by them quickly. G Corrales will need to move Seven Is Lucky to go five wide, to the outside of Sick Boi. Hawaiian Lord is caught on the far outside here but is trying to hang in there. Jakarta had to deal with his tiring stablemate, Neon Lightning, adding to Nakamura’s frustration. State Apples and Orange Man Awesome had room to run close to the rail, while Cage Rage had more traffic to deal with, though could potentially follow Seven Is Lucky. Misting began to fall right back after his initial advance, while none of Poison Arrow, Chagrin Falls, or Bear Head had shown much yet.
(Finish- 1:32.41)- The race is on in the stretch, and with a furlong to go, both Oh Brother and Seven Is Lucky seemed to be in the best position, but several others were running well and could not be ruled out either. A close finish was in the making, and we could get exactly that. Seven Is Lucky would outkick Oh Brother to the wire to score the big win, which will mean the BC Mile is calling just as long as Mb Stables wants him there. He probably will have more than three options, so nothing is guaranteed. State Apples came through to be third, with Extravagant hanging on for fourth place spoils. You could throw a blanket over the next five: Sick Boi, Jakarta, Cage Rage, Hawaiian Lord, and Orange Man Awesome, and not too far behind them are Bear Head, Chagrin Falls, Poison Arrow and Neon Lightning. In all, first and thirteenth are separated by less than two lengths! Misting, however, did not join in on the close finish fun, and was a couple lengths further back.
About The Winner- Seven Is Lucky, trained by Mb Stables and ridden to victory by G Corrales, is a six-year-old gelding by Clockwork Chai and is out of Tough Talk. He was bred by Mb Stables in New York as a third quarter two-year-old and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his eighth in 27 starts, his fifth stake win and third graded win. His career earnings are now $1,763.660.
