Tight Fit for BC Juvenile Fillies Turf

BC Juvenile Fillies Turf – Grade I
1 mile Turf Graded Stake Purse $1,000.000 Two-Year-Old Fillies At DMR

BC Juvenile Fillies Turf promises to be a whiz-bang action-packed mile of feminine competition. This is about as closely matched collection of two-year-old turf miler lasses as you are ever going to see. The future for these lasses is as always mixed. You never know. If you look at the past winners, there are some that went on to glory, some that just went on and one that barely went on to a few more races. But, here, today it’s $1,000.000 and prestige. The race shapes up a rematch of the Natalma Stakes which was won in a photo by Influence Seeker over Shot Of Summer and Patronize, and it was so close that any one of those could switch places to the win. And then there’s Rowena with a nice post position for her running style, and she already has a $1,000.000 win just getting here. This is just the tip of the iceberg, you keep talking about these lasses and the next thing you know you’re talking about how the thirteenth choice has a clear shot at the win, so let’s just race. Here’s the field:

Horse                                  Owner                               Odds  SRF

Influence Seeker                 Mb Stables                       *3-1        96

Shot Of Summer                 Diablo Diablo                      7-2        96

Patronize                              D J C Racing Stables         4-1        94

Rowena                              Williams9                           9-2        92

Grand Concourse               TwinTowersRacing              5-1        94

State Title                           Team 7 Illusions                 6-1        92

Wild Water Wagon              La Canada Racehorses      8-1        94

Mini Mulite                           Mb Stables                          8-1        94

Pucci                                 Mo Mentum Farm             10-1         94

Song Of The Angels           Riggins Racing                 10-1         93

Jump Into Action                Diablo Diablo                    15-1        95

Ginger Glory                       The Sidley Stud                20 1         94

Shes So Pretty                   Team 7 Illusions               20-1        92

Pistol Packin Mama            Mb Stables                       30 1         99

Mini Mulite              Mb Stables               94

Mini Mulite won at first asking, then flopped at a couple of grade ones, including her first try on grass in the Natalma Stakes, but then, she went to KEE and went in the 1 1/16 mile turf grade two Jessamine and scored a head victory and a 94 SRF. It should be noted that that first turf run in the Natalma also scored a 94 SRF in defeat, so no wonder her connections have kept trying with her.

Rowena               Williams9                92

Rowena got rich winning the prestigious KD Juvenile Fillies which carried a purse of $1,000.000 in her first mile turf try. She went into that race as the favourite after showing her definite interest in turf with a maiden win followed by a second in the $150.000 Catch A Glimpse Stakes at WO. If you counted money as the guide, Rowena would be favourite here, but the KD Juvenile Fillies only earned her a 92 SRF whereas the Natalma Stakes rewarded Influence Seeker a 96 SRF. Also, Rowena has not raced since late August and her trainer has chosen to train her up to this race with a series of seven-furlong works.

3   Wild Water Wagon                  La Canada Racehorses                94

Very lightly raced and only defeated once, Wild Water Wagon won the grade two Miss Grillo at AQU directly after breaking her maiden. Now the Miss Grillo was a 1 1/16 mile test, and she’s a deep closer which timed it exactly, so we have to wonder what her chances are of pulling that sort of race off at a sixteenth less in a field of fourteen from post position three. It’s a scary proposal. However, she has a clever train who might just know how to keep her closer to the pace and out of trouble. Then she could be a lot of trouble at the wire.

4   Pistol Packin Mama                     Mb Stables                   88

Pistol Packin Mama is a maiden that gets in here because she has run second in half of her races, and one of those seconds was in the $100.000 OT Juvenile Fillies Turf at DMR. Emboldened by that performance, her connections placed her in the grade two Miss Grillo where she showed why she should not be in this race by finishing up the track.

5   Pucci                     Mo Mentum Farm                   94

It took Pucci  four races to break her maiden, but when she did she showed she liked winning, she liked grass, and she liked routing by dead heating for the $150.000 Johnson at SAR. She then went on to run second, beaten a nose by Wild Water Wagon in the grade two Miss Grillo. In her four turf races, she has yet to finish worse than second on the stuff. I find that horses with records like this have a way of continuing the record in spite of the odds.

6   Song Of The Angels                Riggins Racing                 93

Song Of The Angels took four healthy efforts to break her maiden and was immediately sent into the deep end where she finished third in the $1,000.000 Untapable Stakes at KD. She then stretched out and ran a close third in the grade two Miss Grillo at AQU. She gets a decent post and should be able to hustle out into the speed duel.

7   Ginger Glory                       The Sidley Stud                 94

Ginger Glory took four races at lowly BTP and FP on the dirt to finally score a four-length win at a route. Then on September 28th, her trainer decided to test her on turf. On October 5th, she placed second in the grade two Surfer Girl Stakes at SA. That’s all we have on her: she’s pretty good on dirt; she’s dynamite on grass.

8   Patronize                   D J C Racing Stables               94

Patronize was the third horse in the photo in the Natalma Stakes, and as a closer, who knows what will happen in this rich rematch with just a little shift of luck or instructions. She comes from a savvy stable who can make the necessary adjustments. They already have worked on tightening her up with an impressive second in the grade two Jessamine at KEE between races and at a bit longer route. I very much like her chances here.

9   Influence Seeker                Mb Stables              96

Influence Seeker took five races to graduate from the maiden ranks. In spite of that, she was so impressive along the way and winning by two lengths at high-level track that she was made the favourite in the grade one Natalma Stakes at WO right out of that maiden win, and she did not disappoint with a nose victory in a picture pretty run down the mile turf course. With the race high last SRF, a top-level jockey, a decent post, strong works and the top stable in the world to get her ready; what’s not to like?

10   Jump Into Action                     Diablo Diablo                95

Three dirt sprints led to Jump Into Action’s first turf start in the grade three Surfer Girl Stakes and her first graded stakes win. Obviously. Her trainer was tipped off by her September 1st mile work and cleverly placed her in that race. Now, she looks like a nice set-up rabbit for her stablemate with one speedy win with the caveat that she looks like she could well go on and take the whole thing.

11   Shot Of Summer              Diablo Diablo                96

In early August Shot Of Summer’s trainer tested her on grass and liked the number, so into the $150.000 Catch A Glimpse Stakes at WO she went and into the winner’s circle she took her trainer as a longshot winner of the turf sprint, and in doing so exposed herself as a nice closer. So how about a route? Off to the grade one Natalma Stakes where she came from last to just miss by a scant nose to Influence Seeker coming from last with a vicious late run through the stretch. A repeat of that race and the slightest twist of fate and this time the race is hers.

12   Grand Concourse            TwinTowersRacing                     94

Grand Concourse was the first horse outside the photo in the grade one Natalma Stakes as she finished fourth three-quarters off the win, but she was closing in on the brass ring. A little adjustment today and a better outcome. Since that race she traveled to KEE to test a bit longer in the grade two Jessamine where she placed third showing good staying power and toughening her up for this race. I rather like her chances, especially with a trainer who is a whiz at prepping little surprise packages.

13   State Title              Team 7 Illusions                          92

After winning at first asking at CD no less, State Title was thrown straight into the dirt grade three Sanford at SAR and placed third, About that time her trainer started testing route works and was obviously impressed with her turf numbers and apparently impressed with the purse for the $1,000.000 KD Juvenile Fillies, because her next start was her turf debut in that very race, and she placed second to Rowena beaten a head by her late close. After that, she went back to dirt with unfortunate results in the grade one Alcibiades. So, here she is with only one turf race in her life. The second will be the BC.

14   Shes So Pretty                  Barcelona Farms                       94

Shes So Pretty took a slightly unusual path to her career start: after a decent debut on dirt at EMD, her trainer spotted a dynamic preference for turf in works and skipped the maiden races, rather placed her in a DMR allowance turf sprint which she upset by an open margin, straight over to the $100.000 OT Juvenile Fillies Turf which she also upset. She topped it all off with a third place deep close in the grade three Surfer Girl Stakes. I just hate what this parking lot post position does to her chances, especially with her racing style.
