The Adirondack – Grade 3 – $200.000
SAR – 6 1/2 Furlongs – Dirt
For Fillies Two Years Old
August 7, 2022
Tokyo Story is writing her own story so far in her career. With just four starts, she’s managed to earn $150.400. Second in two stakes attempts, the third one just might be the charm. Looks like the one to beat. If anyone is up to the task, Gumption might fit the bill. Two races, two wins, this filly has earned back-to-back 90 SRF figures and $101.400. If stakes experience counts for anything, look at Spoken. Trailed by 8 in the early going in the Debutante at CD and was able to close to within 3 lengths at the wire.
Here’s the field:
#1 Electric Mischief
Owner: Arkansas Elite
Very nice auto-gen. In the money all four career starts, including a MSW win last out at CT. Not a strong believer in auto-gens, but this one looks special.
#2 Forlorn Hope
Owner: TwinTowersRacing
Another one coming in off a MSW win, this one at CD. Close to $100.000 winnings in just three starts. Gotta respect that.
#3 Indien Rouge
Owner: Mb Stables
Broke her maiden in MSW company at BEL two starts back, then tried stakes level but couldn’t hit the board. Not sure she’s ready for another step up, this time to graded level.
#4 Gumption
Owner: Alydar Stables
MSW and allowance winner, this filly looks like the real deal. Two starts, two wins. Can she continue that streak here?
#5 Juicy Fruit
Owner: D J C Racing Stables
Credentials aren’t as impressive as some in this field, but she has done everything she’s been asked to do so far, with a near miss first out and a win in MSW state-bred at FL. Still, will need to step it up to compete here.
#6 Cold Storage
Owner: Rock Creek
Changed hands in May for $25.000, then won a MSW at LAD in her first start for the new connections. Another one that’s going to need some racing luck to compete here.
#7 Butter That Biscuit
Owner: Arkansas Elite
Arkansas Elite’s other horse just won a MSW at WO after a second at FP. I wouldn’t count this filly out. Like her chances to get part of the purse if everything goes her way.
#8 Spoken
Owner: Fractious
Won a MSW first out at PRX, then tried stakes level in the Debutante ($175.000) at CD, finishing sixth after trailing early. Experience may give this one an edge, but she’ll need to bring her A-game.
#9 Tokyo Story
Owner: Smokey Stover
Dynamite is the term that comes to mind when looking at this filly. Another one is always a bridesmaid. Won in MSW company at CD to break her maiden. But in two stakes starts, she finished second both times. That very likely won’t be the case this time. Looks like the one to beat.
#10 Phantom Romance
Owner: Fractious
Another one that tried stakes after a high-level maiden win. Could do no better than 8th that day. As with others in this field, the stakes experience might give her an edge, but the competition will be even tougher this time.
#11 Ava Adore
Owner: South Shore Stables
Asking a lot of a maiden to step up to graded company with just two starts under her belt. Working well, but I’ll pass on this one.
