We continue with the BC previews and take a look at the youngster turf
types. It’s a wide open group, in my opinion, but there is a ton of talent and a good cross of veteran conditioners and some new barns with chances galore. Horses in red have already qualified with a Win And You’re In victory.
BC Juvenile Turf Points Top 15
HORSE NAME PTS Earnings
Divide Your Fears 10 $337.180
That’s one way to get to the top of the list… break your maiden in a GI race! He’s been close a number of times but got the job done at WO in the Summer (GI), once again proving that Mb Stables KNOWS a horse. This one has speed and seems to be able to carry it a distance, and that can be dangerous.
Fight Clubber 8 $856.800
He sure has done a lot right, winning three in a row including the KD Juv and that massive purse, then took the Bourbon (GII) at KEE. Add in that maiden win at LAD and you have one hot gelding. Barcelona Farms has to be tickled with this $25.000 purchase.
Benevento 6 $257.600
A horse that won his first two starts, both on the dirt, then went through a bit of a hard time before Riggins Racing moved him to the lawn and it re-lit his career. He’s even won over the track, taking the OT Juv Turf (GIII). Last out, he flew home to be third a length back in the Pilgrim (GII) at AQU. Talk about a late runnin’ son-of-a-gun… this one is always closing fast.
Britslastempire 6 $135.870
Three wins in four starts and Lemax Farms has to be tickled pink… his first two wins came at BTP and FE, so the purse money was minimal, but he used speed to take the Pilgrim (GII) at AQU and that changes his career in a big way. After selling Last Way To The Beac, early in his career, I doubt you could pry this one away with a Brinks truck and a can of pepper spray. I’ll be cheering for this one.
Bold Luka 6 $125.410
Only four starts for this colt but he Red Fox Farms’ monster really showed something in that runner-up effort at WO in the Summer Stakes (GI). He flashed speed when fifth beat a length in the Skidmore at SAR, but coming from off the pace a bit seemed to give him a real boost. I bet a bunch of folks wish they’d put down the $50.000 to claim him in that maiden win.
Wolf Lord 4 $224.200
Five starts and three owners… I’m guessing John Henry will hold on to the gelding after than win in the Zuma Beach (GIII) on the SA lawn. He was third in the SAR Special (GII) and just missed in the KY Juv at CD, so he could be a horse to watch on the TC Trail, as well. Either way, he’s nice.
Puppet Master 4 $220.000
We sure are seeing a lot of Riggins Racing charges in these youngster races… the barn is loaded, and this one has been tough in every start. If there’s any downside, and I wouldn’t call it that, his wins came vs non-graded stakes company… still a third in the Summer Stakes (GI) and a close-up fourth in the Champagne (GI), he’s is a versatile sort. Keep your eye on him, no matter where he runs.
Hide In Plain Sight 4 $161.460
He broke maiden on the SAR lawn, then was fourth in the Summer Stakes (GI), only to follow that up with a game second beat a length in the Bourbon (GI) at KEE. Mb always has a hot hand in the BC races, and this is another that will certainly make his presence felt.
Soviet Debacle 4 $149.280
Only four starts, but the Spb Racing owned gelding has certainly made a name for himself. He broke maiden in his first turf try, wet turf at that, then was third in the Tyro at MTH but that win in the With Anticipation (GIII) makes him a horse with a very bright future… like the current isn’t bright enough.
Hagrid 4 $64.000
Only three starts and a maiden win to his credit, but he was flying home in the Pilgrim (GII) at AQU so you have to think that Delta Farms is smiling about this one. Even that sixth place finish at KD in the KD Juv showed a lot of “want” closing fast and finished a length back. He’s another that seems to be in a good spot.
Politsiya 3 $87.010
Only one win from his six starts, but both of his stakes efforts since the vet stopped by to help his focus, it leads you to believe this one is getting better with each and every start. The Big Guns Stables trained gelding was third in the OT Juv Turf (GIII) and closed fast to be the runner up in that Zuma Beach (GIII) race at SA… he’s liking the green stuff, for sure.
Phantom Thunder 2 $74.200
Another with only a maiden win, but it did come on the weeds, and he was beaten two lengths in both the KD Juv and last out in the Bourbon (GII) where he finished third, closing like a runaway train. Red Fox Farms has a nice colt, here… and he could be a horse to keep an eye on.
Jigsaw 2 $51.490
Things were going pretty well, breaking maiden first out and running second in the With Anticipation (GIII) at SAR… but he was sold, gelded and ran last of eleven in the Bourbon (GII) as the 4/1 favorite. Can he turn it around for Pan Farms?
Captains Breath 2 $44.620
Blazin D still has a maiden in this one, but he was second in the OT Juv Turf (GIII) over the DMR lawn, so maybe they shoot for the stars?
Fear Lugo 1 $315.070
Never off of the board in five starts showing a 3-1-1 record and won (DH) the Futurity at AQU in his most recent trip to the gate. He was third in the Skidmore at SAR and had a big lead late in the KD Juv only to get nailed in the closing strides and took the runner-up spot. He’s better than the 1 BC point that he has.
