Trainer Mb Stables now has four three year old fillies sitting in the Top ten in KYO points, poised to put in a big effort next month in Kentucky when the Oaks takes place Friday May 3rd.
While the old school understanding that you need to give a horse one race after they break their maiden use to be the standard, this weekend we have seen that has not been the case in a couple of major events.
Saturday here at AQU we witnessed Totally Baroque ( Mb Stables) coming off a Mdn60 victory at this very oval, and turn that around with a stalking style till just inside a furlong to run. She would snatch the lead away from a very determined Hollywood Sister ( Estero Farms ) in the lane and go on to win by a length over a late closing Appealing Ginger in a final time of 1:48.64 ( third best for this event ). Hollywood Sister would settle for the show money. Many handicappers probably found themselves Totally ” broke ” by backing others for this events.
While she wasn’t made the post time favorite, Appealing Ginger may have waited just a bit too long to make her run at the wire. She did run close to the same time she put out in the Busanda two starts ago. She will definitely need to be a bit closer to the front in the Oaks.
Hollywood Sister stayed close throughout this affair, and with just one win in nine career starts, she has definitely earned the respect of other horse owners and handicappers alike. Watch for this one to hit the winners circle very soon once again.
Fourth through sixth place would consist of Dali The Viking (Smokey Stover ) who was game at the top of the lane, but would settle for the minor purse, two back. Fifth was Piece Of Heart ( Joshua Stables ) who seemed to be keeping a close eye on Appealing Ginger, but may have no fired at the right moment to keep in step. She managed to finish only three back. Sixth would go to Cheetah ( Angelo Stables ) who seems to be struggling to find a top three in all her graded tries, and though she was just three back as well, I wonder if she will drop back to the protective ranks to rebuild confidence.
Rounding out this event in order of finishes were Realize ( Gdp Inc ) who got in front of the eventual winner entering the clubhouse turn, but was unable to manage the pace till the end. After a burst from the gate and leading this event to the midway point, Red Lucy ( The Sidley Stud ) would start to show signs of fatigue ,and start to fade down the lane. Post time favorite Evening Star ( Fractious ) just didn’t seem to have her head in the game today. Franco has won with her before, but lets see if she shortens up her distance next time out. Finally the event would be rounded out by Deceptive Tactics ( Nakamura Stables ) who has been finishing terribly again Grade II company. Don’t get me wrong, this trainer is one of the best in the game, but I think its time to keep the money in the bank, and get this one back to the grass that she loves.
