Three Year Olds NY Breds
Here we have a field of seven New York bred three year olds that are going to be sprinting on the dirt here at Aqueduct racetrack. It looks to me like a very competitive field for sure and there is a bunch of runners coming out of stakes races. The toughest runner looks like the outside horse Grandiose to me coming out of the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf.
1. Hockey Bolt (5-1-1-0 $43.600), trained by Jkk Racing Stables
This horse here is coming off of win in a statebred maiden special weight last out where he won by a length over eight other rivals here at Aqueduct over seven furlongs. He likes to close from way back in the field and I think he likes seven furlongs a little more than this six furlong distance but if the pace is hot he will be flying.
2. Black Flags (9-3-1-1 $156.240), trained by La Canada Racehorses
This horse is coming out of a statebred stakes race in his last start where he ended up finishing fourth after being close to the pace in early stages. He usually likes to be off the pace but he was close that day for some reason and ending up fading late and getting beat. He will have a lot better chance if he is off of the pace.
3. Sweeping In Levis (4-1-1-0 $39.200), trained by Drabfantasy
Now this horse is coming into this race off of a win in a maiden special weight going five furlongs on the turf at Calder in his last start which he won by a neck in a six horse field. He won nicely that day but he will have to be able to translate that form to the dirt and run an even better race than he ever has before.
4. Hide The Lemon (4-1-1-0 $12.920), trained by Gdp Inc
This horse is coming off of a fifth place finish in a stakes race at Portland. The race before that he broke his maiden in a maiden special weight at Finger Lakes by two lengths. He will need to improve big time to actually have a chance in this spot because I just don’t see him winning based on his past performances.
5. Brady Is A Lady (3-1-2-0 $67.800), trained by Sharis Stables
Now here is a very solid runner right here that just ran second in a statebred stakes race last out in only his third career start after winning a maiden special weight at Del Mar in his second start. I think this horse will have a very legitimate chance if he can keep the pace slow enough because he like to be on the lead.
6. Trigger Finger (5-1-1-0 $67.200), trained by Aer Stables
Here is a horse who is also stakes placed in the field and he actually ran fourth in the grade one Hopeful last year. He ran second last out in the Street Sense going a mile and I think that the cutback in distance will benefit him pretty nicely and I think this horse has pretty good chance to win. He is my second pick in the race.
7. Grandiose (6-1-2-1 $101.740), trained by D J C Racing Stables
Now here is the runner in the field that is coming out of the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf and he ran eleventh that day. Before that though he ran second in the grade three Bourbon at Keeneland. He did run his first two career starts on dirt and ran second in a maiden special weight at Chruchill so I think he can handle the dirt.
Summary
Well this is a very solid field and it looks like they are all pretty evenly matched to be honest. I am going to go with the outside runner Grandiose because of the competition that he is coming out of and I think he is the class of the field. Trigger Finger looks pretty tough also though and is my upset pick to win the race.
