RACE 9 BEL The Phipps Stakes (GI) [BC]

The BIG girls come out to play for big, big money as we look at the field for the 2015 Phipps Stakes (GI) [BC], at a mile and a sixteenth on the main track here at BEL. Let’s go to the outside posts and just take ’em right in order. I’ll put Years Go Bye on top, Jenny Sunrise right there and Barbies Corvette on the board in a big one, yet again.
This is one fine group of horses and I wouldn’t be surprised if I nail this or miss it all together. It’s going to be a fun race to watch, so let’s grab a hot dog and a beer and head on down to the rail to take this one in.

Hasn’t won since Feb but was close in both of her graded tries since that win in the Santa Maria (GII) at SA. All three of those races were at today’s distance so you know she likes it and has a ton of ability. Her last couple of works are a bit of a turn-off, but this is a sharp outfit and I think you can overlook those.

Claimed for $50.000 back in March and has back-to-back placings v. graded company, including a nice race last out at six and a half furlongs. She looks to be begging for a bit more ground, so this could be the perfect spot for her to make a splash.

The name says it all… she has class! Nice win at CD in the La Troienne (GI) to get back on track. It had been a while since she’d seen the picture-booth, so it had to be a relief to see her win that race in a nice way. Thing is, I still like a couple a bit more than her, but wouldn’t be surprise if I were eating my words at the end of this one.

The win streak came to an end in the Wiley (GI) at KEE back in Apr, but certainly nothing to be ashamed of in that second place effort. Still, the time off makes her fresh and able, and that’s a dangerous combination. Giver her a big chance here today.

The switched her over to dirt and ka-boooom! Big win in the Vanity (GI) at SA in her most recent. She was making a good living on the turf, and if she really is that good on the dirt, look out… she could be a dangerous horse. She certainly has my attention.

Nice win in the Apple Blossom (GI) at OP giving her two graded wins from three starts this year. You can give her every excuse in that sloppy up-the-track race between those winning efforts, and that makes her a serious factor here today. Probably post time favorite, and I give her a big chance as well.

No wins since last June but she is ALWAYS on the board while facing some dang’ed good horses! More of the rest, and the post may keep her from being a bigger issue in this one… or she may finally find her way back to the winner’s circle.
