Starlet – Grade II [KYO]
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $200.00 Filly 2 Year Olds.
1st Tranect Acber Farms Elliott S
The key for this one today was laying up a bit closer to the speed and although he was wide in the end he had the class to get the win. This was some leap from turf sprinting to dirt routing, but distance and ground can make little difference to the right horse, and this one has now won a stakes race on both surfaces and over sprint and route trips. I really liked the sub 1.37 work this one put in last month and he just may be a live KYO hope for the stable.
2nd Ontario Pharmacist Williams9 Dominguez Jo
Stalked from the awkward draw and kept on really well for second beaten just a quarter length. This was another solid effort for the son of Great State who was bed by Smokey Stover and changed hands again when this stable bought her from Team 7 for just $22.770, A winner and runner up now at grade two she is a solid stable hope for next year.
3rd Balance That Budget Rock Creek Smith M E
Came from a long way back to be beaten just a half-length into third. She needs to find the early speed she found when stalking and winning over four and a half furlongs because her biggest enemy since that debut win has been her closing style which can be a dream killer on this engine. A good prospect for 2026 though and the trainer is no slouch so will be looking for ways to keep her in contention earlier.
4th Dreambits Mb Stables Zayas E J
Used the wide gate as expected but once again found this trip too far off the front and just faltered down the stretch. She was beaten less than a length into fourth though and with a bit more restraint and maybe some love from the draw monster she could be making her mark next year.
