Trippi Sparkle Finally Gets Her Graded Stakes Win in Monrovia Stakes

Monrovia Stakes – Grade III
6 1/2 Furlongs Turf Stake Purse $200.000 Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up.

1st Trippi Sprinkle Mb Stables Rispoli U

Well, if all the skill has been taken out of the game because of the new race engine then I guess it was never skill that made Mb Stables such a dominant force in this great game that we play. Once again, their horse found a great place to stalk the lead and pulled away for a fairly trouble-free win going over the line in a significantly faster time than when she ran fifth in the same race last year. The six-year-old has now won an amazing 17 races and among those were 11 stakes wins but this was to be her first at graded level and it certainly looked like it won’t be her last.

2nd Point Of Honor High Voltage Hernandez R M

Ran down the hill from the front setting a very fast pace until, as usually happens these days, someone caught her down the stretch. This was another great effort for another really consistent mare and whilst she was beaten today, she lost nothing in that defeat.

3rd Laptop Oquinn Farm Loveberry J

It is hard to make ground on this downhill track that only exists these days in the HRP world of racing, but she had little choice with the wide draw and such a fast mare likely to go to the front. She stayed on really nicely to end up third just a length and a bit behind the winner and with only seven starts under her belt she certainly has plenty of room for improvement.

4th Sweetness High Voltage Franco M

What made her run so sedately this time will always be a mystery, but she was much closer to the pace last time out over this course and distance when following a faster pace. At the end of the race though she ran pretty much the same time so again it does look as though running styles does not really affect the finishing positions. A close up fourth she could easily have been second with a better start and last year’s winner shouldn’t go away from this race with anything, but her head held high.
