Trying To Master Snow Chief Stakes

Sean Hannity (Maximillion Farms) shown here with an impressive Allowance win in his last start will be one of the favorites in the Snow Chief at SA

Snow Chief Stakes

1 1/8th Mile Turf California Bred Stake $200.000 Purse For Three Year Olds

2016 Champ: Classic Cliche

Part of the Memorial Day racing card at Santa Anita is the Snow Chief Stakes. The race this year features six talented colts and geldings. The mix of horses in this race will no doubt make for an exciting and unpredictable race.

1- Sinister Sunset (Canadian Racing, ridden by Baze T C)

The stable of Canadian Racing will be doing a rain dance pre race as Sinister Sunset seemed to take a liking to the soft footing last time out when he won by nine lengths to break his maiden here earlier this month. He comes in with only three career starts but after his last race the connections couldn’t resist giving this race a try in hopes of taking home a piece of the purse.

2- Beppo (Night Rider Stables, ridden by Bejarano R)

Never running on anything but the turf Beppo has struggled deciding if he can hang with stake horses or is just a nice allowance type horse. Hoping to test that theory again in a state bred stake makes sense but will be in tough as this competitive field has some great looking up and coming horses.

3- Range Of The Sun — SCRATCHED

4- Sean Hannity (Maxmillion Farm, ridden by Maldonado E)

After trying to find his way this year in N1X races he was finally able to get the job done last time out at SA and is ready to move onto stake competition now. The talent level isn’t a huge jump up so a good effort here will still keep him in the money. Recent race times also suggest he isn’t far off any of the others in this race.

5- Eccentric (Asgar, ridden by Espinoza V)

For the first time in his young career Eccentric will be trying the turf. We don’t have a lot to go off for this one as we don’t even have a single work showing on the turf. We will have to assume the turf works on the farm have been good enough to warrant the attempt on the grass.

6- Master Sly (Night Rider Stables, ridden by Talamo J)

Master Sly comes into this one after a solid third place finish in the GIII Illinois Derby. This will be a switch back to turf for the first time in awhile after qualifying for the BC Juvenile Turf last fall. He is a talented gelding that has struggled to find the winners circle since last summer but in this small field of Cal breds could be just what he needs to get back into the win column.

7- Punching Bag (Mb Stables, ridden by Smith M E)

This lightly raced three year old comes in lacking experience but not talent. His last two races, a maiden breaking win at GP and second place finish in a N1X at WO were both impressive races. The winner of that WO allowance was able to use that race and move on to a second place finish in a $100.000 stake. I think this one hits the board and would not be surprised to see him in the winners circle when this one is said and done.
