The First Lady – GI (P4) [BC]
10/5/19
KEE Race 3 1M – Turf
Purse $400.000
Three Year Olds and Up Fillies and Mares
A full field of twelve even with the one scratch as the thirteen will draw in from the also eligible here in the First Lady in Keeneland. They will all be going for a spot in the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Turf in here also. Let’s take a look at the field.
1. Rainy Day Woman (20-8-5-1 $582.350), trained by John Henry
This first filly we come across has been on one heck of a year in her last six starts as she has ran first or second dating all the way back to last December in every start. If she can run like she has been in this spot I think she has a very good chance at winning this.
2. Wbf No Regrets (20-7-2-0 $236.260), trained by TwinTowers Racing
A graded stakes winning filly right here but she is coming into this race off of a tenth place finish in the grade one Ballerina. She has been switching from dirt to turf and sprints to routes but she seems best sprinting on the dirt. I just don’t see her having much of a chance in here.
3. Necrophilia (6-1-1-1 $78.450), trained by Threshold
And this next filly will be making her first start for trainer Threshold after he bought her in the last auction. She has not ran a whole lot and she only has a maiden win to her name so she is stacked up against it here. I don’t see her having much of a chance.
4. Low Key Desires (13-3-3-4 $305.400), trained by Aer Stables
This filly is coming into this race riding a two race win streak and both of those races were stakes. The last win was in the grade three Nobel Damsel at Belmont just about two weeks ago. She is on the improve but the quick turnaround could hurt her.
5. Steel Tip Toe (7-2-1-2 $147.280), trained by Estero Farms
Now we take a look at this filly who is coming off of a win in the River Cities at Louisiana Downs. She ran a big race that day and got her first ever stakes win but this is a huge jump up in class. Her other graded stakes tries were not all that great so I don’t know if she has much of a chance.
6. Diluted (12-5-3-1 $462.700), trained by Mb Stables
Winner of the grade one Del Mar Oaks in her last start right here and she ran a huge race that day. That was a breakthrough performance her that day I think and I also think she is hoikh yo be able to follow it up with a big run in here. She should have a very good chance to win.
7. La Terrifiant (21-6-5-3 $2727.000), trained by Our Athletes
A Breeders Cup champion when she was a two year old when she won the Juvenile Fillies but she is still going strong as a four year old. Since Our Athletes has had her he has mainly put her on the turf and she has done well. She will need to run a big race but I think she can.
8. Cry Out (13-3-2-3 $166.560), trained by D J C Racing Stables
A decent finish for this filly in her last start as she ran a good fourth in the grade KD Ladies Sprint. That was going six and a half furlongs and she did get caught in the final stages so not sure how she will handle a mile. If she takes back the distance should not be a problem but she will have to run a huge race.
9. Change Perception (19-8-5-1 $418.580), trained by Mb Stables
The second runner for Mb Stables in the field here and this filly is coming off of a very lackluster performance where she ran seventh in the grade three Waya. She did not run good at all that day but a mile should be better. She will have to run a huge to have any shot.
10. Angel Shark (10-6-2-0 $708.060), trained by Maxmillion Farm
Ever since the turf master Maxmillion Farm got this filly has went on a tear and she has won five of her last six races including three graded stakes. She has been running good and I don’t see her not running her race in here. She should have a very good chance in here.
11. Stormy Embrace (9-2-1-2 $331.510), trained by Mb Stables
Scratched
12. At The Crossroads (12-3-1-2 $146.130), trained by Gdp Inc
This next runner is coming into this race off of a win in a statebred optional claimer at Belmont on a soft turf course. She crushed that field that day but this is a wide open grade one so it is a huge jump in class. She has a tough post and I don’t think she can win from out there.
13. Brutal Heat (9-2-2-1 $86.140), trained by Chili King Stables
And the final runner in the field is drawing in off of the also eligible list. She just ran second in the Pebbles at Belmont and she ran well that day. This is a big jump up in class and she has a very tough post to overcome so it just doesn’t look like she has much of a chance either.
Summary
A good field for this race and there are some very good going for this grade one win and a spot in the Breeders Cup. My top selection is going to be Angel Shark since she has been on a roll and beating good horses. Good luck to all in the field.
