The GP Oaks (GII) [KYO]
$250.000   3yoF  1  1/16      Dirt

1
 Laffin Diplomat  D J C Racing Stables  Baird E T        7/1 122

Well, I didn’t see that one coming… after winning the Forward Gal (GII) looking like a world beater, she completely stubbed her toe in the Davona Dale (GII) finishing eighth on that afternoon.  Both of those were over this strip, so I’m just not sure what to make of it all.

2
Aldonza  Heavens Own  Ortiz I Jr      5/1 122

She’s changed hands a couple of times of late which is always a bit of a red-flag to me, but the price went up, so maybe it was just that…  horse trading.   That last out dud in the Honeybee (GIII) at OP can be dismissed as I just don’t think she likes a wet track at all… unless this turns up wet, then I’d avoid.

3
 Downtheredcarpet  Barcelona Farms  Albarado R J        5/2 122

Got back to the winning ways taking the Busher at AQU last out and boy oh boy did she close a late gap in that one to get the job done.  Turning for home she looked like an also ran, then found a gear that can only be dreamed of.  Can she repeat that effort?

4
The Hanging Tree  Riggins Racing  Castellano J J       9/1 122

Tired in the late goings of the Devona Dale (GII) after setting the pace throughout much of that one.  That was her first race after breaking maiden and may need a bit more seasoning before going after this type of horses.  She has ability.

5
Shake It Off  Australia Wide  Velazquez J R        7/1 122

Got the job done for The King last out, breaking maiden at SA at 6f.  That was her second start, so she’s proving to be a race horse.  I’d usually shake my head and walk on to the next contestant but you just can’t ignore them when they come from this barn.  She might be real real good.

6
Serpent  Night Mare Racing  Bravo J      6/1 122

Three in a row after that flat-mile win over this track v. Alw horses in her most recent.  She has tactical speed and the big question will be can she take it this far v. this type of horses or do they try different tactics today?

7
Pinot Gris  Night Rider Stables  Bridgmohan S X        3/1 122

Solid effort last out when second of eleven in the Santa Ysabel Stakes (GIII) at SA, and that was her first effort against black-type horses.  You have to think the sky is the limit for this one and her best racing is right in front of her.

8
 Primera Fajita  EasyMoney Stables  Nakatani C S        12/1 122

Well, that’s back-to-back bad ones after looking like she could be any type of horse.  Eighth in the Santa Ysabel then eleventh in the Davona Dale and she’s facing many of those right back in this one.  Either she needs to relight the fire or it’s going to be a long afternoon.

9
 Fleeting Affair  Mb Stables  Leparoux J R       8/5 122

Undefeated in he last three races and looked mighty tough winning that Devona Dale (GII) in the fashion that she took it.  It almost looked like she was toying with them early and just went to he front when asked to take that one by a length.  This barn can never be ignored but with this one they look unbeatable.

10
Love In The Mist  Mb Stables  Bejarano R    2/1 122

Another piece to what seems to be the never ending puzzle that is Mb Stables.  Nice to get back into the winner’s circle after a third on BC Day and then a fifth on her 2016 comeback.  She closed like a freight train in that last out win and if she can get a clear path today, lookout.

11
Princess Legion  Aml Racing  Talamo J      9/1 122

She’s won two of three starts but has obviously been facing less than what she finds wrapped up in this bunch.  That only defeat seems to be that she just ran out of track that day, or she could very well be three-for-three.  Can she handle the step up?

12
 Little Kruz  Brave  Desormeaux K J       12/1 122

Oh-for-three facing graded types over the last trio of outings.  She’s been close in a couple of those but it’s going to take her absolute best to get any part of this one, especially from this horrible post position.

13
Mucho Too Bad  Aer Stables  – Also Eligible – 122

She’s going to need a scratch to draw into this field but it looks like she does her best work on the turf and I think this may be a spot she just doesn’t want any part of.
