6 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $100.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
1st Universal Speed Babyhead Corrales G
The key for this three-year-old today was not taking the wide gate speed push to try and contend with the very fast early pace. Instead, he settled just off the speed, and when the closers started to assert it was he who was strongest. This was a great performance by the three-year-old against a big field of seasoned sprinters, and he looks the type to go on to graded sprinting races next year with some success. Congratulations to the owner who claimed this gelding for just $6.250 early in the year.
2nd Bronx Tale Apache Warrior Bacon T W
Of all the late closers that the race engine set this race up for he was probably the most notable as he flew through from a mile back and only lost by a half-length in the end. Interestingly, he was claimed from Babyhead, the winner’s owner, for just $5.000, so this would’ve been a heart-stopping finish for them. This was a great run after winning his last three, and he is certainly a much-improved sort.
3rd Mighty Team 7 Illusions Beschizza A
If anything, he had to come from further back than the runner-up, but we all know closing timings are hit and miss, and there were always going to be hard luck stories after the first two furlongs were run at a blistering pace. Beaten a length into third, this would have been a very different result had it been seven furlongs.
4th The Answer Night Rider Stables Gutierrez Mario
The wide gate speed push put him up and contending for the lead, and considering the fast pace, he did very well to hold on for fourth. The first four were all three-year-olds, which should tell us something about results for the rest of the year.
