The Bayakoa (Grade 3)- $250.000 Purse
OP- For Fillies and Mares Four Years Old and Upward
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Dirt
February 8, 2025
Untidy came into the Bayakoa looking like the one to beat, and many people agreed, making her the post-time favorite. On Saturday, the five-year-old mare out of Lil Pink Panther would not disappoint her supporters, stalking the pace early and pulling away from the competition late to win by a length. This makes her third win in four starts. Untidy is trained by Mb Stables, and this is his second win in the race. His prior victory came in 2017 with the late Make It Known. I Ortiz Jr adds his name to the winner list for the first time. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:41.30, the third fastest in the race’s history. Let’s take a look at it:
(1/4 Mile- :23.27)- Longshot Creepy Alexa jumps out to the race lead for TwinTowersRacing as she looks to pull of the Bayakoa double. Divine Moonlight is second, and on the rail for Diablo Diablo, and running a length behind her in the third position is the D J C Racing Stables- trained Ragnar. Running in her shadow is out eventual winner from Mb Stables, Untidy, and to her outside, we have Foreman, from Royalty Stables. They are all two lengths from the front, and it is another length to Two Phils (Angelos Stable) and Wrong Farm (Winning Link Stables), who run side by side. Next in line is Rosi (Paradise Stable), and trailing is Midnight Rumble (Riggins Racing).
(½ Mile- :46.96)- As the field moves down the backstretch, our runners are mostly content to hold their position in the pecking order. So, it’s still Creepy Alexa with the lead by a length over Divine Moonlight. Behind them, Untidy is the middle of a trio of horses, still having Ragnar to her inside and Foreman in the third lane. Two Phils and Wrong Farm ride it out right behind them, with Rosi and Midnight Rumble each waiting for their time to strike.
(Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- Towards the end of the backstretch, I Ortiz Jr begins to ask Untidy for a little more run, and he will get what he is asking for. With a clear lane in front of her, Untidy is able to inch forward, putting away the two she had been running with, Ragnar and Foreman. This methodical advance would also see her get by Divine Moonlight within the turn, and now all that was left was Creepy Alexa. At the top of the stretch, she was within the pacesetter, making the longshot’s supporters hoping she could hang on for the back end of the exacta. Meanwhile, Divine Moonlight was lacking response, and we didn’t see much urgency from Ragnar and Foreman. Wrong Farm looked like she was saving something and had a nice lane to come on between them in the stretch to potentially be a factor. Two Phils looked like she had enough, and further back, Midnight Rumble was making a move as she is known to do. Rosi could now see them all in front of her.
(Finish- 1:41.30)- In the stretch, Creepy Alexa would make Untidy for the pass for as long as she could, but on this day Untidy would be too much for her. The favorite would ultimately complete the pass and go on to win by a length. Creepy Alexa’s effort was not wasted, as it gets her second and creates some nice payouts. Wrong Farm did take the lane available to her and would get by the rest of them, but did not have enough time to get more than third. Midnight Rumble made her way through the pack to get fourth place spoils, topping Ragnar, Foreman, Divine Moonlight, Two Phils, and Rosi.
