Kaboom!!  Champion In Action, dismissed as the 44/1 long-shot in Saturday’s Lukas Classic (GII) at CD, made every call a winning one, setting the pace throughout and cruising under the wire in front by a length, as the 7yo took home his third win of the season.   The Martian tracked the pace throughout, but just couldn’t get to the winner, settling for the place, a half length in front of post-time favorite Gigabyte, who also forced the issue, but just was another length back in third.  It was another half length to Whitsunday in fourth.  Five lengths covered the field.

Champion In Action is a 7yo gelded son of Natural Drummer – Angies Taco Truck, by Meals On Wheels, and he was bred in Fla by his owner, Night Rider Stables.  This was his twelfth win from fifty-two starts, and he now has lifetime earnings of $2,062.000.  It’s great to see another older gladiator still kickin butt at this level.  Congrats to the Connections!

Champion In Action broke alertly and set the pace under pressure to the far turn, got away to take a clear lead into the lane, kept to task, won driving.  The Martian stalked the pace 4p, fanned widest for the drive, good late effort, second best.  Gigabyte pressed the leader to the far turn, flattened out down the lane.  Whitsunday even effort while no threat.  Pluckzy rated off of the pace, some late interest.  Day Of Black inside trip, tired late.  That Funky Monkey was no factor.
