The Suncoast Stakes [KYO]
1 Mile 70 Yards Dirt Stake Purse $125.000 Filly 3 Year Olds.
1st Valley Center Nakamura Stables Castillo I nk 1:39.46
The key for this one today was being able to lay up to the pace a little closer than she did last time and it gave her a good enough launch pad to get the job done in a tight finish. I have said it a few times about consistent horses, that they will always be a danger in races like this because they have that ability to put themselves in a finish. Today she did exactly that and prevailed by a neck making it three wins from seven starts and her first at this level. She will have to improve again to get the required points, but one thing is for sure she will be a willing party to that and will be giving her best at any level.
2nd Whirlwind Spirit Acber Farms Curtis B hd 1:39.52
Talking of consistency this one’s consistent record is all the better as she runs as a closer and it is very hard on this engine to be involved in every finish when coming from behind. She found a solid pace today and flew home and may well have won with another half furlong. She deserves another shot at KY qualification after this effort, and she looks like the further she goes the better she will be.
3rd Quiet Heat The Sidley Stud Rodriguez A R 1/2 1:39.55
In only her fourth start she got home nicely for a very close third and like the first two will no doubt get a second shot at the KYO qualifiers.
4th Idlingawaythehours Riggins Racing Geroux F no 1:39.65
In one of those HRP races where everything rushed home at the end, we always see unlucky losers and horses that miss by inches. This was certainly one of those but ran a whole lot better than her first start for the new trainer so will have given them hope.
