The Appleton – GIII
GP Race 8 1M – InTurf
Purse $100.000
Four Year Olds and Up Fillies and Mares
A field of ten fillies and mares are lining up in the starting gates for the years running of the Appleton over the turf course here at Gulfstream Park to try and take the winners share. It is a very solid and big field whoever wins will have to run a big race. Let’s take a look at the field.
1. Dalitierri Girl (16-5-3-3 $338.300), trained by Our Athletes
Well the first runner that we come across right here graded stakes winner. She won the grade three Autumn Miss Stakes last year and so far that is her best start in her career. I think that if she runs like she did that she fits right with this field and she will have a decent chance to win.
2. Classic Tail (18-6-3-1 $132.220), trained by Ashwood Farms
Another stakes winner right here as this filly just won the Cassiopeia in January over this same exact turf course. She ran very good that day but ran last in her last start in an allowance race at Santa Anita. I think she could run a big one if she brings her best race.
3. I Justwantthe Purple (23-4-7-3 $467.970), trained by Gdp Inc
Here is one of the most talented fillies in the race right here but her running style does have a running style that sometimes hurts her. She won the grade two Dance Smartly last year but usually her come from behind style makes it too hard for her. It the pace is hot she will be rolling late no doubt.
4. Bounding Away (22-10-6-3 $519.990), trained by Angelos Stable
Another very nice mare in this field right here and she is also a graded stakes winner. She is also grade one placed so she is bringing a lot of class into this field. She won easily in her last start which was a wide open allowance race at Golden Gate. I think she has a very legitimate chance to win.
5. Windian (13-4-3-1 $328.160), trained by Team 7 Illusions
Well here is the main pacesetter in the race going off of her recent races because in her last three she has spurred to the lead every time out of the gates. If she runs like she has in those last three she will be up front carving out the fractions so she will need to go slow to have a chance.
6. Laffin Trait (17-5-2-5 $136.890), trained by Gdp Inc
Once again another stakes winner in the field and this filly won the Mary Todd last month right here at Gulfstream. The only thing about that stakes win was that it was a starter stakes so it was technically a race against claimers. She will need to run a very big race to have a chance in here.
7. Infrastructure (14-5-1-2 $290.760), trained by Our Athletes
The second and final runner from Our Athletes right here is another graded stakes winner in this field. She won the grade two Appalachian last spring at Keeneland but was winless until her last start in a wide open allowance race at Tampa Bay. She has the ability to win but it will depend if she brings her best.
8. City Never Sleeps (14-3-3-3 $250.020), trained by Saratoga Stud
Well here is a tough runner to go over because she has never ran on the turf in her career. She has won graded stakes on the dirt but she has never ran on the turf in her life. If her last workout means anything she will like the turf but nobody knows how she will perform until it’s race time.
9. Distinctive Lady (14-5-1-4 $239.180), trained by D J C Racing Stables
Once again we come across another stakes winner in this field. This filly won the Winter Memories at Aqueduct last November and then ran a bad fourth on a soft turf course in the grade three Marshua River. She will have a better chance if it is a firm turf course.
10. Twinny (14-6-2-3 $266.490), trained by Maxmillion Farm
And the last and final runner in the field right here is also just like almost every single one of them, a stakes winner. She won the SSM F/M Turf Sprint two back and ran fourth in the Buena Vista in her last race. The outside post definitely hurts her but she has the ability to overcome it.
Summary
Man oh man is this a competitive field right here. I mean almost every single one of these is at least a stakes winner of some sort. I think my top pick is going to be Bounding Away because I think she is the best filly in this field. It is a very tough field and anyone of them could win.
