Kingarvie Stakes
WO Race #2 1 1/16m Dirt Stake
Purse $125.000 For Two Year Olds Foaled In ON.
1 Rod Steiger, trained by Asgar
This juvenile has had a fairly busy season with 8 runs for 2 wins. Taking a maiden in July he has been knocking at the door in his races without setting the world alight. Probably his best start was in his last race where after finishing seventh in the Champagne he took the Forest King Stakes from a similar field. The draw is his friend again today and he could easily repeat that head win.
2 Lest Ye Command, trained by Blazin D
A son of Commading he wasted his maiden win at the free track and has since worked well enough to suggest he can live with this sort of company. He should appreciate this trip and whilst i dont think he is a chip off the old block he wouldnt need a sizeable chunk of his fathers ability to beat these.
3 Happy Place, trained by Mo Mentum Farm
He finally broke his maiden last time out when a game neck winner of a statebred on this track. His work times look sharp and this isnt much of a race so he should be competitive.
4 Commanding Roll, trained by Threshold
Not much of a worker but he broke his maiden nicely enough on this track and looks the type to appreciate this trip.
5 Walkin Broomstick, trained by Smokey Stover
He was right upside Rod Steiger in the Champagne and has pretty similar form lines to that horse. He won the ungraded Kiss A Native before a great run in the Best Pal Stakes where he was only beaten a length in fifth. He was second to the impressive Mist Maker in his last start and that form along with a sharp work time make him my pick.
SUMMARY
On form this looks between Walking broomstick and Rod Steiger and the opposite ends of the draw will make it very close between the two of them. I am favouring Walkin Broomstick today
