We should be just across the Belt Parkway at BEL, but construction keeps us here in Jamaica at AQU, and we catch a nice field of six older Empire-state bred fillies and mares in The Port Washington.  You can call this one a going-away present for Max… nah, that old rock isn’t going anywhere, but I’m three races from hangin’ it up, at least for a while.  He begged for entrants, I threw one in, and now, let’s talk about the race.

I have one in and talked the wife into giving some picks… so…  she says you have to give Max the edge, so Lucky Star is her top pick.  She thinks he invited people to “an ass-whippin” and that’s her top choice today.  The Green Card her in the second spot.

She has Pippin in the second spot and The Green Card has her on top… you can see why.  The big barn spent a pretty penny to secure this on out of the Arindel dispersal at the latest auction, and she beat up on similar last June at BEL.  She certainly is a horse that cannot be ignored.

The Card goes three deep and puts Golden Glows in the picture as well.  She ran third in the first start for the new barn, and Paradise puts her right back in a spot where you can expect a big run from her.

Here’s The Field –

 1
   Afar    D J C Racing Stables    Silvera Ru   123   5/2

She’s still looking for her first win of the ’24 season, but this is a place where she could get that done.  She’s been close in three consecutive graded affairs, and this is a bit softer, although others here and seem similar.  Still, if she can just keep her current form going, she should be in the middle of it… if she steps it up a notch, look out.

2
Silver Cobra Woman    Asgar    Lezcano J   123   4/1

Purchased from the recent auction and the Arindel dispersal… this a win and a second from two starts this season and seems ready to take on the next step in her career.  Both of those races were over the inner weeds, so she knows and likes this track, and should certainly be considered when heading to the windows.

Lucky Star    Maxmillion Farm    Carmouche K   123   5/2

You have to like what Ali said on this one “he invited everyone to an ass-whippin!”… she’s another that doesn’t have a win this year but has been close in a number of graded races, and now they are going to stretch her back out.  She just missed in last year’s DEL Oaks (GIII) and won the Edgewood (GII) on the CD lawn, so this looks like a spot that she may love.

 4
Golden Glows    Paradise Stable    Kocakaya G   125   7/2

Was claimed prior to that third-place finish in the Mt Vernon, over this surface, and she could see a wet track again today.  She is a good fit at this distance, surface and level, and The Green Card says you’d best use her on your tickets.  This looks like a good spot for her.

 5
   Pippin    Mb Stables    Prat F   123   5/1

The big barn pays a big price to re-locate this one into the barn, another that moved in the recent auction via the Arindel dispersal.  She won her only ’24 start, vs OptAlw types at HOU, now moves to Mb and you have to think she’s going to give a big effort in this one.

 6
Ehearts Corner    First Flight Stable    Castellano J J   123   12/1

There is no good news here…  wrong distance, back on short rest, not training well… certainly not what you want in your last start, but nothing else was even close to being “able” to run, and a promise is a promise… so, the horse is entered, but it’s going to be over early for this one.

    Ali Picks    3 / 5               Willie’s Green Card    5 / 3 / 4
