We Head Down to Tampa for The Davis Stakes

What a difference a year makes… just one short year ago, some bum won this race… oh wait, that was ME! So, the bum part was right… a year later and I look like Ron Popeil trying to sell everything on late-night TV. Back to the race in front of us… The Davis Stakes (GIII) is a springboard to the TC races, and we have a nice, full field for this one.

I’ll take Rearranger as the slight favorite today. He just missed in the Jerome at AQU, the first race for Mb Stables, and this being his fourth lifetime start and second for the connections, I think they look to score here today. Let’s go right next door and put West Of The Bay in this one… he was third in the BC Juv (GI) but has not looked as sharp in the last two starts of his freshman campaign… a seventh vs. Cal-bred Alw types and a fourth vs OptAlw horses. I think he finds his mojo today and turns it around. Let’s put Numbskull in the third spot… he failed miserably on BC Day, but ran a solid third in the RP Springboard Mile where he closed well in that one and should like the longer distance.
