Weekend Graded Recap Dec 23

9  GP    The Mr. Prospector (GIII)

$125.000   7f  Dirt    3yo&Up     120lbs  Older 123lbs    +penalties

YME Stable showed no sympathy on The Mr. Prospector (GIII) field… as their four-year-old gelding Tea And Sympathy closed down the far outside, hit the lead in the final yards of the seven-panel sprint, and went under the wire clear by a neck, stopping the clock at 1:21.03… a new stakes record since this was changed from 6f to 7f, a few years back.  Mellow Magic had the lead in the lane but could not hold off the late charge from the eventual winner, taking the second spot, with Plan To Wheel a close-up third.  99/1 shot Bigmouth Raj set the pace to the lane, but tired a bit in the late going, earning the minor share of the purse.  Five lengths covered the field of twelve.

Adrift At Sea, owned by Threshold, wore down a game group of females to take Saturday’s Sugar Swirl (GIII) at GP, covering the six furlongs in a quick 1:08.98, taking this one by a length.  Failure To Launch was closing ground late, but could not go with the winner, taking the second spot by a half-length over Penal Partido Rene in third, then another half-length to Cohn in fourth.  Five lengths covered the field of nine.
