Well, this seven-year-old needed something to slow the younger horses down and he got it in the shape of global warming as we saw yet another wet racetrack. This was his sixth win on wet ground so it was no surprise to see him well supported in the betting market and whilst he could only manage a share of the win this was a welcome return to the black type winners circle and put him over the $1,000.000 prize money mark.

I am not sure we found out exactly which five-year-old got the most fairy dust as the rains came and changed the race because like the other winner the off track suited this one down to the ground. This is such a HRP result with this one a regular in cheap claimers until this year when lo and behold he turns into a stakes winner. In fairness he had always looked better than his form at the end of last year and there was a clue at LAD last year that he was going to be suited by a turf mile. Coming from a mile off the early pace he flew home like a multiple stakes winner to very nearly claim victory alone. This was a great claim from the trainer because 4 different trainers had a go last year and none of them managed to spot that preference.

Happy enough on the wet ground he went off in front and looked to have stolen it with two furlongs to run. Wet tracks can be hard on front runners though and his stamina gave out in the end.

Plugged on for fourth and despite winning in a better time over the same distance last time could not quicken like he did that day. This was a shade disappointing, and he may need to wait for the improvement curve to move him on a little before he is winning these types of races.
