1
Merlene Ottey Night Rider Stables Davis D 121 —
She has run once in the muddy conditions when dead heating for second in the Santa Ysabel three quarters of a length behind Thousand Hours and dead heating with Creepy Runner Party. That may have been a career best run so you can safely say the wet won’t inconvenience her. Her only work in the mud was a breeze at GP where her trainer rode her to a 1.01 and 1 which is fairly respectable in the conditions.
2
Rain Rattle Bears Stable Pennington F 121 —
Strolled home an easy four length winner in maiden claimer in her only start on a slushy track and whilst that is clearly a mile away from this race it did show that a wet track won’t be a problem to her. She has had no public works in the wet.
3
Tactical Spin Alydar Stables Geroux F 121 —
Her only run in a muddy track came back in June last year when she was a decent enough second in a sprint maiden, so again I think we can say she can act on an off track. Her only work on an off track came in the mud at WO over the mile where she went 1.41 and 2 and whilst that is no lightening work that says she is a wet tracker it does say she won’t have too many excuses on an off track.
4
Shes A Looker Nakamura Stables Elliott S 121 —
She has never raced or publicly worked on an off track.
5
Heart Of Joy Royalty Stables Centeno D E 121 —
Her only work on worse than good came on a slushy GP track where she clocked a 1.01 and 2, not terrible but it certainly wasn’t a sign she loves the wet. No races on an off track.
6
Marina The Sidley Stud Corrales G 121 —
She has raced three times on an off track twice in the slush where she ran second, most recently in the Gazelle and then in the mud once where she was eighth in the Santa Ysabel. She has raced well enough in the wet especially last time when just beaten by Narcissa Malfoy to suggest her chances won’t be hurt too much.
7
Confident Elegance Wood Duck Stables Lopez P 121 —
She has never raced on an off track but has worked on a good track where she clocked a 1:25 and 1 for the seven furlongs at KEE. Good enough to give her a hope of acting on it and along with her small stature she may be OK.
8
Valkyria Alydar Stables Espinoza V 121 —
She has never raced on an off track but breezed just last week on a muddy CD track where she went 1.14 and 1 for the six furlongs. That was respectable enough to give her a chance.
9
Credit Crime Aer Stables Ortiz I Jr 121 —
She hasn’t run on worse than good ground but is two from two on that going which is no help to her rivals. She also has a short ilium which can often mean they act in the wet.
10
Narcissa Malfoy Mb Stables Franco M 121 —
Ran a career best race when winning the Gazelle last time on a slushy track, could this be a master stroke from the champion trainer?
11
Creepy Runner Party Mb Stables Velazquez J R 121 —
Horses that can act on turf can sometimes handle an off track on the dirt and she proved when she ran second with unfavorable tactics in the Santa Ysabel that there is no reason to think it will be a problem.
12
Thousand Hours Mb Stables Prat F 121 —
Proved when winning the Santa Ysabel that she can handle the mud so the wet conditions will not worry her. She has a couple of works which include a 1.13 and 2 ridden handily over SA’s six furlongs and then on a slushy track when clocking a 1.14 and 3 at AQU at the same distance.
13
Soliloquy Sunset Nakamura Stables Gallardo A A 121 —
She has never run or worked publicly on an off track so along with her stable mate we are very much in the dark as to her chances.
14
Fire Chief Bigking Gaffalione T 121 —
Well, she has run four times on an off track, but all of those efforts were in much lower grade. She did win an optional claimer at TP in slushy conditions which may be our best guide to concluding she will be OK if it rains.
15
Give Up On Style Asgar – Also Eligible – 121 —
No runs or works on an off track.
16
Escapist Williams9 – Also Eligible – 121 —
Third in the Astoria as a two-year-old on a good track that is our only clue.
SUMMARY
Well, if the track comes up wet, then it seems the main protagonists here will be still the main protagonists. Credit Crime seems happy enough in the wet as does all three of the Mb runners. Rain Rattle too will be fine and is rather aptly named. The only runners that seem a mystery are the Nakamura pair.
