Who Will “Get Lucky” in Irish Stakes at SA?

 8  SA      Irish Stakes

$100.000    4yo&Up F&M    6 1/2f  Turf (Hillside)   123lbs

We have a field of ten ladies set to sprint down the hillside on Saturday and we look at the field for the Irish Stakes, a six and a half furlong turf sprint with even weights.  This looks like a wide open affair and you could make a case for any number of these.  The Green Card took Uzume and other than her lack of turf efforts of late, she certainly looks formidable.  I think it will be a close finish, so grab a wobble pop and head down to the rail for what should be a good one.

Here’s The Field –

1
Win For Red    Bkm Racing    Rispoli U   123   8/1

Kicked off the season with a win on this course vs. OptAlw horses, then tired to be fifth on SSM day, again at today’s distance.  Both of her ’20 wins were on the hillside so she certainly knows her way down this quirky course.

2
Gummy    High Voltage    Van Dyke D   123   7/2

Makes her seasonal debut after a two-win season in ’21 where she won the Cares (GIII) at SAR along with an Alw race over this course.  She seems to run well off of a rest, so give her a big look today, she should be in the middle of things.

3
   Fioraia Ruler    Avenue Z    Espinoza V   123   10/1

Only a single win (maiden) in ’21 but she was on the board in all but one start, showing three runner-up starts and a pair of thirds.  She shows two Cal-bred stakes start, a third a GG and a last of five over this track in the Spring Fever last out.  She’s got to turn it around from that last out effort but she broke maiden on the grass so maybe come back to the green stuff helps her.

4
Royally Bred    High Voltage    Cedillo A   123   9/2

Her only ’21 win came at this course when she won the Cal Distaff Hcp in wire to wire fashion.  She’s got some speed, and that is a valuable tool… but she’s tired in both of her last two starts, so she needs to turn that prior form to be a factor today.

5
Notorious Aristocrat    Angelos Stable    Maldonado E   123   10/1

She’s been tagged our of her last two starts, so you know the eyes are on her.  She’s been on the board in eleven of fourteen, so no wonder why she’s changing hands.  Can she take the step up to graded horses?

6
   Cassandra G    Angelos Stable    Velazquez J R   123   5/2

Four wins from ten starts last season and she’s been on the board in both ’22 outings, so she’s probably the one to get past.   She was second in the Las Cienegas Stakes (GIII) over this course, so she knows the way.  Give her a big look.

7
   Bad Assa    Asgar    Curatolo R   123   9/2

A pair of wins from this one, both on the weeds, as she broke maiden at SAR then won an Alw race at CD, one sprinting and one at two-turns.  She shortens up after a trio of mile and a sixteenth stakes efforts… will the shorter distance make the difference?

8
Uzume    Nakamura Stables    Gonzalez Ru   123   3/1

Six wins from twenty-four lifetime starts, add in another dozen on the board finishes and she’s a perfect two-for-two this year… there’s no doubt she can run.  She has two thirds from her pair of turf outings, so the switch back to the grass in an interesting one.

9
In Cold Blood    First Flight Stable    Bravo J   123   20/1

The owner is an idiot… it’s my horse.  She was just tagged for $10.000 at TUP and with eight wins from eighteen starts, and after that bullet work I figured …what the heck… give it a shot.  She’s the outsider, to say the least.

10
Test Code Party    Asgar    Gutierrez Mario   123   6/1

Nice win over this course last out and she jumps back into stakes company.  She beat one in the Autumn Miss (GI) at a mile here, but won at the distance last out taking down OptAlw types.  I’d give her a look.
