Four of this ones six wins have come on the turf and that’s where we have been seeing her more recently where she has been a competitive sprinter. Her recent dirt work didn’t set the house on fire so i am not sure we will see much improvement back on this surface but she is an honest sort from a decent draw so i expect her to give a good account.
2 Torrents Of Spring Wood Duck Stables Stein J
A lightly raced four year old who has won her last two in fast times in competitive overnights she gets the draw everyone wants here so could well be a contender. She has failed in her attempts at black type before but wasn’t bad from a bad draw in the Test and i feel she has improved since then which her works back up. A step up but more than capable of winning.
3 Gold Futures TwinTowersRacing Hernandez R M
A real honest six year old she has been battling in good company and at her best would be right in this. The stable has a knack with these types of popping one in that hasn’t won for a while and she gets a great draw and comes off the back of a close fifth in a grade two last time.
4 Pirate Princess Angelos Stable Wilson E J
Finished in front of Gold Futures when a close third in the Santa Monica and has the form to run well from a decent draw. She showed she can handle this trip when a neck second in the Chillingworth Stakes but it has been a while since her last win and i wonder whether she is a better each way chance than win chance.
5 Lady Sammyantha The Sidley Stud Lopez P
You would think a horse that was fifth beaten a length in the Bc Fillies and mares sprint would be a sure thing in a lower level race like this but things don’t often work out like that at HRP. She was a little disappointing in the Inside Information on seasonal debut and after those successes as a three year old getting a weight allowance she may be facing the four year old curse. Certainly good enough to win but she will have to be back to her best form.
6 Miss Atomic Bomb Aarons Hosses Zayas E J
A lightly raced four year old she wasn’t far off Lady Samantha in the River Run last year and ran a decent second after a break in the Interborough on seasonal debut. Natural improvement see’s her as part of the equation here.
7 Kreepy Chill EasyMoney Stables Albarado R J
Comes here off the back of two lower grade wins it is hard to find the form in her figures that would see her winning but she has a decent record at lower level so is worth the chance to step up.
8 Dancinginflorida Night Rider Stables Gonzalez El
Disappointing in the BC Sprint last year she was close up in the Santa Monica last month and that form race puts her right in among them here. The stable is going well and she certainly has the works and performances to go well but the draw will be awkward.
9 Pinkcrest Gdp Inc Leparoux J R
As so often happens the worst draw goes to statistically the worse horse but i wouldn’t entirely write off this fillies chances. Very lightly raced she won a nice allowance last time in her first ever dirt effort and she may turn out to be the dark horse and slip under the radar.
SUMMARY
I rather like Torrents Of Spring for this as she has such a great draw and is in fine form. There are plenty of chances though not least Lady Sammyantha, Pirate Princess, Gold Futures and Dacinginflorida all of whom are within a length of each other on Santa Monica form.
