SSM Turf
GP Race #5 1 1/16m Turf Stake
statebred Purse $150.000 For Four Year Olds And Upward Foaled In FL,MD,NY,PA.
1 Dogs Silver Stacker, trained by Joseph Racing
Bought at auction for sixty dollars this four year old gelding looked pretty cheap
considering a recent career of stakes placings. His run in the Commonwealth Turf
when he tried to make all only to get run down late was full of merit and if he
gets a soft lead from this draw he will be competitive again. His last track work
was pretty good so as long as he can overcome a break since lat last November i see
no reason he cant run well.
2 Yes Its True, trained by D J C Racing Stables
This five year old has placed six times in ungraded stakes and has been a consistent
servant to his trainer for some time. The benefit of his easy win in a fast time recently
will certainly be a plus here and although he rarely covers this much ground i see no
reason why he wont get the trip. He may get into a speed battle with the horse inside him
but if he finds a good stalk i see no reason he wont give another honest performance.
3 Come Out Firing, trained by Mb Stables
This very lightly raced four year old has won two from four and comes here on a three timer.
Typical of the type of runner that the trainer does well with he will certainly see out the
trip and looks to be firing on all cylinders on the gallops. Its a tough ask to come from
Allowance company to stakes company after a longish break but i am sure like all his stable
runners that he is not here to make up the numbers.
4 Red Zebell, trained by Pan Farms
Another astute auction purchase being picked up for just fifty dollars he was seen improving
late as a three year od and always looked like he may be successful at four. A decent win in
the RP Green Stakes saw him take on grade three company last time out but he was found out a
little and could only manage fourth. He is certianly worth his place but may find one or two
too good at the end.
5 Haint, trained by Nakamura Stables
A prolific winner for Simmer Down Stable,he, like most from that stable was never tested beyond
overnights by the stable. However what makes this very interesting is that Nakamura used to own
this seven year old when he was a stakes winner and graded stakes placed. Since coming back ‘home’
the grand old campaigner has won two competitive overnights and is working very well so it is not
beyond the realms of possibility that we will see this season start like the last one did with
the veterans dominating.
6 Commercial Grade, trained by Team 7 Illusions
Lumped with a 2Lb penalty he has been running consistently well in good company for a while now.
His works are up there with the rest of them and he has been recording good speed figures. The
only blot on his copybook is the extra weight and that may just be enough to see him beaten.
7 Heart Pocket Jeans, trained by Deja Vu Farm
Also carrying a penalty this may turn out to be the dark horse in the race. Consistent as a three
year old there was plenty of improvement in his late season works and he cofirmed that improvement
with a very strong win in the El Prado Stakes last month. He has the fitness edge and the right
improvement direction so if he can overcome the penalty he may win at good odds.
8 Big Bird, trained by Blushing Meadows
It would be some win if this very classy four year old could overcome 130Lbs and win thsi race and
when you look at his form it is not impossible. A winner of the grade two Nearctic Stakes over a
sprint trip he then ran pretty well in the BC Turf Sprint. His works are among the best in the field
too and whilst most of his best recent runs have been in sprints he has won a route. So on levels i
would be all over his chances but the extra weight may be a bridge too far.
9 A Fighter, trained by Thinken Stables
Not a bad sort and deserves his chance but with works a tick off the best of these and the wide draw
he may have too much to overcome to be a winning prospect.
SUMMARY
A tight looking race as always I am sticking with Heart Pocket Jeans to pull of a surprise win. If the
penalty proves too much you cant go far wrong with Dogs Silver Stacker or the veteran Haint.
