Singspiel Stakes – Grade III
1 3/8 Mile Turf Stake Purse $150.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
1st Winter Solstice John Henry Hernandez R M
There were to be no nasty surprises in this race as this admirable seven year old joined an elite club of 3K plus winners with a facile and expected win. Getting back as he has a tendency to do he was always swinging off the bit and cruised up down the stretch for a two length win. The race engines new stuttering version of closing had me wondering whether he would ever get to the leader but in the end he went clear.
2nd Cartoonish Nakamura Stables Husbands P
I must admit as the trainer with two runners here and a horse that looked so far superior on paper i was surprised that the trainer didn’t try to freak out the race engine and try and upset the favorite. However he set both of his runners to run within themselves and both ran their races with this one coming out on top as he stayed on for second. He was never going to match the winners finish but for a horse that had been sprinting in his last three he ran a decent race.
3rd Bunnevera Arindel Moran D
Considering this one had been in cheap claimers in his last three races it is another rather damning testament to HRP that he can run better in a grade three stakes and get his best finish since November 2020 when he got his last third but in lesser grade. The trainer chose the one tactic on the new engine which can find them a few lengths and went to the lead and must have been pleasantly surprised when no-one pressured him. He ended up in a head scratching third.
4th Forty Exba Maxmillion Farm Bahen S R
Stalked the leader but for some reason couldn’t find the speed to go past a claimer and ended up a pretty weak fourth. It just goes to show that previous form and performance can mean nothing next to the correct click of the instruction button.
