Xanadu Magic Tf Dances In The Rain

Dancing Renee- $100.000 Purse
BEL- For Fillies and Mares Three Year Olds and Upward Foaled in NY
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
June 28, 2015

It didn’t rain much in New York during May, but anyone who lives here has seen the weather make up for it this month.   While forecasted rain last week stayed away, we were not as fortunate this week, and it was a wet one in the northeast.   This made for sloppy track conditions at BEL, as there is only so much the groundspeople can do. One person that is not complaining about the rain is trainer Pristine Stables, who watched his four year old filly Xanadu Magic Tf jump out to an early lead and never look back in wiring the field.    The Dancing Renee became a rain dance, and this filly surprised some at odds 8/1.   I didn’t give a glowing endorsement to this filly in the preview but she has shown that when she is on top of her game, she come up very, very big. It is the second career stake win for Pristine Stables, so congratulations are certainly in order for this hard working trainer we don’t mention as much in the SRF. I Ortiz Jr followed up his big day yesterday in capturing the Gold Cup at SA with the victory here.    Let’s see how this wet one went down!

1st- 7- Xanadu Magic Tf (8/1)- Our eventual winner wasted no time getting out to the front as I Ortiz Jr fired Xanadu Magic Tf out to the lead early.  Led the field by about a length heading into the opening turn, setting the first quarter in :23.95.  Handled the turn better then anyone, putting a little more distance between her and second place Pure Ecstasy as they reached the top of the stretch.  The first half of the stretch she looked as though she was going to pull away, as the half mile gets set in :47.99.  It was good that she did, because at this point there had become plenty of separation between herself and those who were looking to come from behind.  It made the closers only have a chance to fight for second.  In the final half furlong, they had drawn closer, but the wire came up just in time for her to be able to hold off everyone, and get the win!  It is the second stake win of Pristine Stables’ career, both coming this month at BEL.   The time of victory in the slop was 1:13.65.  Congrats to all the connections!  Xanadu Magic Tf is a four year old filly by Meglomaniac and out of Forever Special.  She was bred in New York by Two Field Stables, and purchased by Pristine Stables in private sales in February for $15.000.

2nd- 5- Ephemeral (11/1)- Midpack early for Night Rider Stables. Approached the turn while being approximately three lengths off the lead, in the middle of a couple that would tire out, and a couple that would come charging forward. On exit of the turn, this distance was unchanged, and R Albarado looked to position her for the stretch run, moving to the inside of Jimmies Fivepeat. This sent her right in to the path of Euneirophrenia, who had to checkup briefly, but later in the stretch, Albarado may have just been trying to atone for that by politely moving Ephemeral down a lane for Euneirophrenia to have. With a furlong to go, Ephemeral was in an all out drive, setting her sights on Xanadu Magic Tf.   With a little more time, maybe she would have caught her, but this effort was enough to get her just up in time for the second position.

3rd- 4- Pure Ecstasy (6/1)- Quick out of the gate for Alegria, and was able to assume a good position along the rail for the run around the turn, while about a length behind the pacesetting Xanadu Magic Tf. Emerged second at the top of the stretch, having cleared the likes of Jimmies Fivepeat and Pink Cougar and needed to make up a length and a half on our leader. Never was able to cut into that lead, and with about a furlong to go, Alegria was likely doing more hoping that she would hold on to second, then to catch the winner.   In the stretch, she did enough to maintain third, with the wire coming just in time before the two that would dead heat got there.

4th- (dh) 1- Euneirophrenia (7/2)–   Went straight to the back early for Wolf Ridge Stables, but not to worry as this filly is known for her powerful stretch runs. Raced the turn to the inside of Impeccably Dominant, keeping these two who ended up dead heating running together for much of the race. A key here was at the top of the stretch, as then J J Castellano had the ability to swing Impeccably Dominant for wide move, R Maragh is blocked briefly by the Night Rider Stables trained entry Ephemeral. This was only a very slight check, and Ephemeral had just as much right to the lane to make a move of her own.   Had a strong run once she was able to do so.

4th- (dh) 3- Impeccably Dominant (182/1)- Even though she won this race last year, and at more conventional odds of 6/1, no one seemed to have any confidence in her this year.   Sure, she should’ve been a longshot but this was much higher then expected.   Unfortunately though for trainer Rousee, she was not able to shock the world in this one, starting at the back right from the start. J J Castellano looked to swing her wide at the top of the stretch to make a run, and it was a solid one to allow her to get up and collect somewhat of a check for her trainer. May have been as high as second with just a little more ground.

6th- 6- Pink Cougar (5/1)- The Alydar Stables filly got off to an average looking start, fourth as they headed around the turn, but was forced in the outside-most lane for that run. Maintained this lane around the turn, and started to lose touch with the leaders about midway through it. By the time she had reached the top of the stretch, she was fading backwards along with Jimmies Fivepeat and looking forward to her next race.

7th- 8- Jimmies Fivepeat (6/1)- The multiple graded stakes winner from Triple T Racing got off to a pretty good start, content to stalk the early leaders. She was also able to get to the third lane in time for the turn, so don’t think the post is an excuse here. In a gradual manner, she lost more and more ground to the leaders during the turn, and by the time it was time for the stretch run, Jimmies Fivepeat was no where near taking the checkered flag today.

8th- 2- Blarney Bee (2/1)- Our pre race pick, and the betting favorite was a major disappointment today. Hopefully for Smokey Stover and this filly who was running on an off track for the first time, we can blame this on the elements. Started towards the back early, and was never interested in racing with these today. It is the first time in her eleven career starts she has not hit the top three.
