Freshmen Fillies will be on display as we look at the field for The Demoiselle (GII), a stepping stone for the KY Oaks and other TC/FTC races.  The obvious choice is probably Lucky Star, but I don’t like the way she’s been backing up as the distances get longer… -but- if it rains, I’d be all over her as I think she is a wet track phenom.  I’m going to give the lightly raced Bravo My Beast the top billing today.  She’s looked good winning her last two starts and I think the distance is just what she wants.  Another that has been on her toes is Twilight Time, so let’s put her in the middle of things.  Only a single win, but she’s been close in a couple of recent stakes, and that may be good enough today.

Here’s The Field –

1
   Greenhousegasparty    Mb Stables    Bridgmohan S X   120   9/2

Had a clear lead in the Chandelier (GII) last out, only to get nailed on the wire.  She broke maiden at DMR and was second in an Alw race at SAR, but the distance may be a question mark for me.  The big barn doesn’t mess around, so give her a look.

2
   Majestic Chai    TwinTowersRacing    Jaramillo E   120   7/1

Back to back wins coming into this one, and three of her last four have been Kodak moments, so she knows how to get it done.  It’s another step up in class and distance, but she keeps passing the tests, so I wouldn’t ignore her.

3
   Twilight Time    Fractious    Velazquez J R   120   5/1

Has been on the board in four of five starts, breaking maiden at SAR, and a nice second-by-a-neck in the Pocahontas (GIII) before that last out third in the Rags To  Riches, both of those at CD.  She was closing in those last two stakes efforts, so the added sixteenth could be just what she’s looking for.

4
   Mind Game    Arindel    Moran D   120   8/1

She’s still a maiden, but don’t be fooled, she was fourth in the Spinaway (GI) and third vs. FLA-bred stakes company, so she’s run with big horses.  Still, I’d rather see her get the job done in the right way before a race like this, so I’ll be looking at some others.

5
   Proud Spell    Fractious    Hernandez R M   120   7/1

All or nothing type that broke maiden north of the border at WO, and won the Chandelier (GII) at SA, but beat won in the Astoria, was last in the Schuylerville (GIII) and beat a few on BC Day, after trailing through most of that one.  Who shows up here?

6
Bravo My Beast    Waldo    Corrales G   120   6/1

Lightly raced, this being her fourth trip to the gate, and she’s won her prior duo of races, breaking maiden at MTH, then taking down high-end Alw types at KEE.  She won each by three lengths, and the distance seems to be just what she wants.  Give her a big shot.

7
Shining At Knight    Our Athletes    Lopez P   120   8/1

Another lightly raced filly, this is only her third trip to the post, and she looked good running second in debut at MTH, then winning at CD to break her maiden.  She could be any type and obviously the barn likes her a lot.

8
Tall Southern Lady    Oquinn Farm    Vazquez R A   120   8/1

Won back to back races taking down NY-bred MSW at SAR on the Spa lawn, then won the Gimma, again beating NY-bred types to get blacktype under her name.  She was closing fast but was just too far back in the Maid of the Mist, so I think the added distance will be to her liking.

9
Pinnacle Lea Party    Smokey Stover    Cedillo A   120   5/1

Looked good breaking maiden at PID by four… so good, that she sold for $275.000, and paid immediate dividends winning the My Trusty Cat at DED.  She’s another that looks to want the longer distances, so don’t ignore her.

10
Lucky Star    Calia Stable    Saez L   120   9/5

Three wins from seven starts that includes breaking maiden in her second trip to the gate on a wet track at BEL, then took the Astoria and Spinaway (GI), making her the BC Juv F favorite… now the bad news, she tired going a flat mile at AQU in the Frizette (GI) and again last out on BC Day… now, she goes longer.  Hmmmm.
