It’s finally here… the biggest weekend in Thoroughbred racing…  The BC.  The 2024 racing season has been an up-and-down type, in my opinion, and I’m very interested to see how things play out over the next two days.

Here we look at the BC juvenile (GI), a mile and a sixteenth test for the freshmen, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a field this deep, this talented and such a wide array of owners involved.  Quite refreshing and gives great hope to the game itself.

We have plenty of selections available for you – as you know, I’m horrible at these types of races, but the whole gang is here, so pick you poison or head off on your own…

Sticking to my picks in these comments, I landed on Street Magician as my top pick.  I know he struggled over this surface in the Best Pal (GIII), but he’s perfect, other than that.  I love the way he closed to take the Iroquois (GIII) and his works really set him apart from the others.

Fractions looks like he has a monster in Extreme Jet, and he was almost my top pick in this one.  Purchased for $200.000 after breaking maiden, he looked to be about as game as you could want a horse to be when he won the Hopeful (GI) at SAR.  He shows some VERY solid am gallops and I really don’t see a hole in this one.

Can you talk about a BC Race and not mention Mb?  Well, only if you want to lose money.  The Big Barn has a horse that is sitting on a win about as much as any I’ve ever seen…  Comanche Smoke has six consecutive runner-up finishes, which is just amazing to me.  Could he be the one, just on “almost” alone?

I rarely drop a four-some in these races, but I can’t lay down the picks without giving Obi Wan a mention.  He’s won both races since the vet stopped by the barn to let him know that breeding isn’t in his future.  That was a game run when winning the Champagne (GI).  I’m not thrilled with his works or post, but something tells me you’d best use him on your tickets.

Well, there you have it… the worst 2yo handicapper at SRF takes a big swing at the big race.  Congratulations and Best of Luck to everyone involved… I say it often, but I’d grab a chilly and grab a good seat because this looks to be one heck of a horse race.
