I really didn’t think La Marseillaise would get beat today… Smokey told me I was dead wrong. Z Command, owned by Smokey Stover, say chilly through the early stages of The Phipps Stakes (GI), then she just dug in and got home in front by a length. She travelled the one-turn mile and a sixteenth in 1:404 on the fast main track. La Marseillaise did take the second spot by the slimmest margin over Wbf No Regrets and Laffy Crack took the minor money
Z Command is a 5yo chestnut mare by Good Authority – Z Broken One, by Z Jinxed One, and she was
bred by her owner, Smokey Stover, in PA. This was her twelfth win from twenty-nine starts and she now has a mind-boggling lifetime earnings of $4,062.200. I’m sure one of those fancy stallions is waiting for her to show up at the breeding shed… well, they will just have to wait ’cause this girl can still run! Congratulations to the connections!

Z Command reserved while just behind the pace, moved forward 4p through the turn, continued 4p to the wire, won driving. La Marseillaise raced off the pace saving ground, moved to the 2p into the lane, closed inside, could not stay with winner. Wbf No Regrets tracked the early pace, good effort. Laffy Crack broke alertly, set/near the pace to the furlong marker, out-finished late. Gravel And Wine raced evenly throughout. Dorians Drift was not a factor. Ete Creek forced the pace 4p early, tired. Copper Mama was not a factor. Orange Beach was never involved. Niagra West good early speed from the rail, tired from those early efforts.
