Zion Birdie Proves Us Right, Takes The Columbia Stakes at TAM

  6   TAM   The Columbia Stakes

$125.000   3yo  1 Mile   Turf     120lbs + penalties

What a beautiful day in Tampa… and we nailed this one as I had the exacta, as cold as the other side of the pillow, and The Card gives you the boxed tri… but neither paid anything, so, there’s that.  When they took the winner’s picture, La Canada Racehorses took the honors as Zion Birdie stayed close to the pace, moved up to stick a head in front into the lane, then held off the very game Dimple Vate to score the win in Saturday’s Columbia Stakes.  The gray gelding covered the flat mile in 1:32.90 over the Firm TAM lawn.

The Big Barn takes the second spot as Dimple Vate pressed the pace into the lane, raced head-and-head throughout, but just could not take down the eventual winner while taking the second spot.  Avignon closed up the rail to grab the show, and pace-setter Michael Jordan was a weary fourth.  Four lengths covered the field of five.
