The Mr. Prospector – Grade III
7 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $100.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
1st Zombie City Eastern Equine Gaffalione T
With four lengths first to last its tough to say this was a dominant win but this grand old battler won by a length which in this race looked like open air.
It is rather apt that we end the year with a KYD third place finisher and a BC Classic purse winner taking a dirt sprint from a Turf sprinter because it pretty much sums up what we have been seeing over all. Good horses are good horses at HRP regardless of trip or surface, now how close that is to real life leaves something to be debated but it is certainly where the game seems to be heading.
This five year old started slowly but flew like a two year old on steroids and won by a fairly easy length in the end. There is clearly more miles in his old legs and being a gelding we will see him again next year where who knows he may end up in the BC Turf at the end of the year!
2nd Red Cup John Henry Tunon M
The old hack of switching a turfer to the dirt nearly paid off for the BC Turf sprint fourth placed finisher but the last furlong found him out as the rejuvenated Zombie City flew past him. Another good effort for one of the few four year olds to enjoy a good season and i am sure he will be back next year to do battle over whatever distance and surface his trainer decides to send him over.
3rd Marx On The Moon Court Jester Racing Ortiz I Jr
Took the outside speed push to sit on the pace and he led briefly at the furlong pole before the inevitable happened. This was a very good effort from a tough draw.
4th Angelsinheaven Angelos Stable Bravo J
Went onto the lead but was never left alone and like the third placed horse paid the inevitable price that seems to be written into the race engine for leaders. Clearly better coming from behind as he did when second in The Preakness i think we will see more from him next year.
