RACE 1 OP         The Apple Blossom Handicap (GI)

$600.00 F&M 4yo&Up 1 1/16m Dirt

As far as handicapping went in The Apple Blossom Hcp (GI), well… let’s just skip how it went and get to some good news. Sanny Village has a nice filly in Jenny Sunrise! The gray filly stalked the pace throughout this one, responded when asked, and went on to score by a length in a final time 1:41 and three. Duchess closed well to complete the exacta, with Barbies Corvette in third, making a nice little $284.30 trifecta.

The field of eight fillies loaded quickly and were away well with Barbies Corvette away well from the rail, Devil Wears Prada right next to that one. Laffinlovely from the far outside, Jenny Sunrise and Duchess. Just in behind that group was Hehehe from the outside, A Class Angie in the middle of the track and Secret Sector was the early trailer.

Around the clubhouse turn and on to the backside, six furlongs to run, and Laffinlovely went on to lead by two lengths at 26/1 odds. Jenny Sunrise three wide through the turn, Devil Wears Prada to her inside and another length to Barbies Corvette on the rail. Duchess on her flank and a length back, A Class Angie to her inside and Heheh on the outside of that one. Secret Sector saving ground and under wraps could still see them all.

Now nearing the far turn with a half-mile left to run, Laffinlovely on cruise control and leading by two. Devil Wears Prada on the rail second, with Jenny Sunrise a length behind that one. Barbies Corvette continuing to save ground, another length to A Class Angie, Duchess still tracking that one, Secret Sector, and Hehehe was now at the rear, eight lengths covering the field.

The field made their way around the far turn and were now at the top of the lane, two furlongs left to run and like clockwork, the field bunched up for the sprint to the finish. Laffinlovely now led by a length, Jenny Sunrise now in second, Devl Wears Prada still clinging to the rail in third, Duchess now picking up the pace and Barbies Corvette came off the rail for the drive to the wire. A Class Angie felt the whip, Hehehe widest of all and trying to press forward as Secret Sector just didn’t seem to have her best with her today, drifting back to trail again.

Now inside the furlong marker and Jenny Sunrise pushed by Laffinlovely to take the lead. Devil Wears Prada from the rail, Duchess five wide and closing, Barbies Corvette inside of that one and trying to make up ground… the rest had a lot of work to do and not much space to do it in.

Inside the final 150-yards and to the finish, this was all about Jenny Sunrise as she went under the wire in front by a length. Duchess making a nice late move to get the second spot a neck in front of Barbies Corvette. Laffinlovely tired a bit late but got a share in fourth, then Devil Wears Prada in fifth, A Class Angie in sixth, Hehehe in seventh and Secret Sector closed out the field.

Jenny Sunrise is a 4yo gray filly by Bred For Success – Adeneas Queen, by Breed Queen, and she was bred in CA by Kingelleinc. This was her sixth win from thirteen starts, and she now has $663.24 in earnings. Congratulations to the connections and to Jenny Sunrise!
