RACE 1 KEE Makers Mark Mile (GI)
$300.00 4yo&Up 1 Mile Turf
It took the placing judges a few minutes to figure this one out, but when the sod and dust settled, Mb Stables was victorious once again. The Makers Mark Mile (GI) proved to be a nice payday for Hollywood Freak as the chestnut stud made a huge late move andgot the job done over a soft KEE turf course. Silver Bullet was a head back in second with Son Of Ra another head back in third, making a handsome $899.30 trifecta.
The field of eight got away from the post in front of the huge crowd here in Lexington, with no lack of want for the lead. Seven Years, Son Of Ra, K T, Hold the Mach and Pip Cozzene all away well. Hollywood Freak just off of that early heated pace, Thrilling Coyote allowed to settle along the rail and Silver Bullet in hand from the far outside.
The made the short run to the clubhouse turn and hit the backside with five and a half furlongs to run, Pip Cozzene was up to wrestle the lead away from Seven Years. K T caught three wide, a length off of that front duo, then Hold The Mach inside of that one and Son Of Ra over to the rail. A gap of four back to Hollywood Freak, Silver Bullet to his outside and Thrilling Coyote to his inside, six lengths covering the field.
Down the backside and now midway around the far turn, Seven Years was now up to take over by a length. Pip Cozzene still showing speed, K T now up to join that one three wide. Another length and a half back to Son Of Ra in a ground saving position, Silver Bullet beginning to make a move, Hold The Mach inside of that one. Another two lengths back to Hollywood Freak and Thrilling Coyote still at the rear, now eight lengths from the leader.
Around the far turn and into the lane, they made their way past the furlong marker and Seven Years was in front by just over a length. K T trying to find move down the center of the course Son Of Ra now cut lose from the rail, Silver Bullet continuing to move forward and Hollywood Freak swinging out widest of all for the Drive. Pip Cozzene had seen enough and was in retreat, Thrilling Coyote trying to find a late stride and Hold The Mach was headed in the wrong direction.
Down to the final 150-yards and to the finish, the roar of the crowd was proof of the racing that was before them – five across the track as the approached the wire and this could be any of theirs to win… Four on the wire and the PHOTO sign went up for the placing judges to look at things. After a wait, Hollywood Freak was shown to be in front by a head. Silver Bullet just missing and holding off Son Of Ra by the same margin, with Seven Years just getting out-finished in the last few strides and finishing fourth. KT was fifth, Thrilling Coyote in sixth, Pip Cozzene in seventh and Hold The Mach closing this one out.
Hollywood Freak is a 5yo chestnut entire by Hollywood Moon – Dominatrixxx, by HRP-Discovery, and he was bred by his owner, Mb Stables in ON. This was his ninth win from twenty-one starts, and he now shows earnings of $2,365.45. This was his second win of the season, and it certainly looks like it won’t be his last. Congratulations to the connections and to Hollywood Freak.
