Shifu Tan Uses Closing Effort to Take Crosby at DMR

It looks like the John Henry barn will be spending fall in Lexington… well, at least they have their ticket punched as Shifu Tan took Saturday’s Crosby Stakes (GI) and looks to be set for the BC Sprint, in Nov.  The bay gelding closed from well off of the pace to score the victory, travelling the six furlongs in 1:082 over the Fast DMR main track.  It was a bang/bang/bang finish for the minor money with Expert Eye grabbing second by a nose over long-shot Count Hound, then another nose to Come To Poppa in fourth.

Shifu Tan is a 4yo bay gelding by Decima – Marley McMarbleface, by City Of Angels, and he was bred in Cal by Keikowin Racing.  This was his sixth win from nineteen starts, his first win of the season, and he now has $928.400 in lifetime earnings.  Congrats to the Connections!

Shifu Tan broke in hand, allowed to settle 3p, moved to 5p for the drive, relentless closing effort, won driving.  Expert Eye tracked pace, closed on lead, out-kicked by foe.  Count Hound raced 4p off of the pace, moved wider for the drive, good late effort.  Come To Poppa sent from the gate, opened a clear lead into the lane, began to shorten, caught, tired.  Duke King on rail behind a torrid pace, no excuse. Plan To Wheel mid-pack 2p, moved to 3p then abruptly moved to the rail nearing the furlong marker, evenly.  Crimson Sun was not a factor.  Tiz Trippi was never involved, wide trip.  Sweet Sweet Sweet wide trip, outrun.  Rock N Rattle trailed.  General Obvious trailed.
