5 SA San Gabriel Stakes (GIII)
$100.000 3yo&Up 1 1/8m Turf 3yo 122lbs Older 124lbs +penalties
Both the Green Card and I had the winner on top, but I think it’s fairly obvious that all the punters had that one! Saturday’s San Gabriel Stakes (GIII) was set on a soggy SoCal lawn, after torrential rains pelted the Arcadia area, but they could have run this in the parking lot and High Votage’s Sioux Arrival would have probably romped home. The 5yo gelding tracked the pace until the money was in plain view, then he cut lose with a gear that the others just didn’t have, going under the wire clear by a length while stopping the clock at 1:50.76 file the mile and an eighth distance, over the soft SA turf.
Slck Dime set the pace to the eighth pole but just didn’t have an answer for the eventual winner, while narrowly holding on the for the place. Angel Star closed a late gap to make that place spot interesting, but settled for the third spot, well clear of Last Outlaw in Fourth. Eleven lengths covered the field of five.

6 SA Pincay Stakes (GII)
$200.000 3yo&Up 1 1/16m Dirt 3yo 122lbs Older 124lbs +penalties
The Green Card stays hot, handing out a nearly 13/1 winner in the Pincay Stakes (GII) as Night Rider Stables’ Wild Card Weekend scores by a wet length, stopping the timer at 1:44.35 for the mile and a sixteenth. That’s two in a row for the 4yo gelding after being claimed for a mere $6.000 back in Sep. A very handy piece of horse training by this sharp outfit.
Boss Spearman closed from far back to grab the second spot over a photo-finished for the minor placings where Alive just edged out Barista by the slimmest of margins, spelling out the third and fourth place finishers. The main SA oval was listed as muddy.

7 SA Malibu Stakes (GI)
$300.000 7f Dirt 3YO 122lbs
We both nailed the exacta in this one, not that it paid anything, but more importantly Babyhead knocks down their first graded stakes score and in a big, bad way, as Universal Speed takes the Malibu Stakes (GI) by a neck, getting the seven furlongs in 1:24.26 over the wet/muddy main track, here at SA. The rags-to-riches stories continue, this one claimed for $6.250 in March, and it’s been nothing short of spectacular, the way the 3yo has performed for the barn! That’s back to back stakes scores, and this outfit has to be on cloud nine! Congrats!
Aggravated Junk, the near even money favorite, tried to rain on the “Baby Parade”, pardon the pun, but had to settle for the second spot in a photo finish that saw Bitcoin Bobby just a head back in third, then a nose to Cherokee Revolution in fourth.

8 SA La Brea Stakes (GI)
$300.000 7f Dirt 3YO F 122lbs
Another first as Big Guns Stables earns their first GI victory when Gigafemme just kept passing horses to get home first in the La Brea Stakes (GI), covering the seven furlongs in 1:24.73 over the wet SA main track. The 3yo filly was dispatched at just over 7/2 odds and showed a relentless action down the lane, taking the win by a half length.
Black Regazze did all of the heavy lifting, setting the pace thru most of the extended sprint, but just couldn’t muster an answer to the eventual winner’s late kick, taking the second honors by three-quarters of a length over third place finisher So Beautiful. That one closing a late gap, but running out of race track and ending her win streak at three. Scrumdiddlyumptious took the minor purse money, and four lengths covered the field of seven.

9 SA American Oaks (GI)
$300.000 1 1/4m Turf 3YO F 122lbs
When she’s at her best, I just don’t know if there is a better 3yo filly than Credit Crime… and she showed her talents today, that’s for sure. Patiently handled while not letting anyone get away from her, the bay filly flew past them in the land to score by two (looked like more to me) lengths and take the American Oaks (GI). The final running time was 2:04.94 for the mile and a quarter, over the soft SA turf course. That was her sixth win from eight ’25 starts… and I for one cannot wait to watch her race as a 4yo.
Mami was send off as the even money favorite, stalked the pace and had the lead in the lane… but she didn’t have a gear to go with the eventual winner and was three-quarters of a length better than Firefish for the second spot. It was the same distance back to Sea of Galilee in fourth. Five lengths covered the field of five and we did have one scratch as Happy Dancer was excluded by her owner.
