KD Ladies Turf – Grade III
KD Race #2 1m Turf Graded Stake
Purse $500.000 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward.
The questions you need to ask before such a race as this are, 1) do you have a three year old with works similar to the older horses, 2) do you have a decent draw and 3) do you have Pennington or Colon. If you have all three of those you win, if you dont then you have to start checking boxes….so lets see who has the most boxes checked for the KD Ladies Turf.
1 Smokin Nebulae Drabfantasy Colon L H
Has the draw, has the jockey, the only thing this mare has to beat is that she is a five year old. A closing seventh in this race last year she had previously won the Waya by four lengths, wind on 12 months and this time she was second beaten 11 lengths in the Waya something that may start the alarm bells ringing. She has a couple of good grade three wins this year so that one effort shouldnt define her and she normally gets into the frame at this level so should be taken seriously.
2 Killer Angels TwinTowersRacing Velazquez J R
Ticks the draw box but thats about all although she has some good form and ignoring her last start her run in the Diana was much better than her eventual ninth placing. Consistency seems to be her biggest problem as a repeat of her second in the Wiley would put her pretty close but take a look at the Beverly D last time and she seems out of it. If the best Killer Angels turns up she would be right in this race.
3 Mandy Mo Angelos Stable Garcia Alan
Looked mighty good in taking the Just A Game by a length in a slick race time but is another who has struggled to hold her form this year. Going on her spin in a dirt sprint last time her trainer is starting to look for options for this ten race winner and this may be her last shot at this type of race.
4 Rain Down John Henry Gutierrez Mario
Ticks the three year old working just as fast as the older horses box so she must have a serious chance even though her form is a long way off the older fillies and mares in the race. She ran well to be a close second in the ONT Colleen the time before last and ran right to the line to be beaten a neck in the Wonder Where Stakes last time so is in good enough form she just has to beat the other three year olds.
5 Dalitierri Girl Our Athletes Beschizza A
Fourth in last years BC Juvenile Turf she has been a bit disappointing this year but did show some sparkle last time out to easily win the KD preview Ladies Turf. Her works are a bit shy of the best three year old in the race but she has a touch of class.
6 Agenda Mb Stables Pennington F
A three year old, working just as fast as the older horses with a fair draw and Pennington on board…thats all the boxes ticked. The only downside is her form which is a long long way from some of these but lets face it when has that mattered!? Just won a little open allowance at FE last time she has dipped her toes in the big time between mopping up at the cheap tracks and has shown enough to make her the HRP choice.
7 Snakie Groupie Maxmillion Farm Albarado R J
A consistent type her only real failure this year came in the BEL Oaks and that may well have been her inability to get the trip rather than anything else. Much better around the mile i liked her on pace second from a wide draw in the San Clemente Stakes and has the distinction of hailing from the turf kings stables which is worth a few lengths these days. Her works are strong and she looks ready to run a big race.
8 Chai Mission Maxmillion Farm Castellano J J
The second runner from the turf king she set a few tongues wagging with her crazy win in the Waya last time when strolling home by eleven lengths. The ease of that win could be put down to the weird effect an easy track has on races at HRP but nevertheless you cannot ignore that sort of run. She ran well to be third in the Nassau over a mile and i think that run is more indicative of her chances here.
9 Phunk Team 7 Illusions Bejarano R
Team 7 has been in great form recently but he will have to navigate from a horrible draw for this one who may not be quite good enough today. Her works suggest she could be there at the end but there are just too many negatives and it will take a bit of HRP trickery to see her winning.
10 Couldnt Tell Mb Stables Court J K
A fast working three year old who has been consistently beaten at lower grade than this and is drawn in the car park. I have a feeling she may be sacrificed to the lead but if she isnt there is definitely more to her than her bare form suggests.
SUMMARY
I get get past two things here, Pennington and Mb with a three year old and the turf king Maxmillion Farms with two three year olds in a turf route. So there it is, my trifecta, which has absolutely nothing to do with form but everything to do with HRP little peculiarities.
