San Simeon Stakes – Grade III
5 1/2 Furlongs Turf Stake Purse $100.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
1st Gleaming Spirit Mb Stables Lezcano J
Amid the difficulty many stables have of finding some consistency with results amid instruction, draw and trip difficulties one stable keeps on churning out the big winners. This horse the winner of seven of his last nine starts once more proved he is the best turf sprinter in the game with a typically gutsy win. At six he looks as good as ever and will be an early favourite to repeat his 2019 BC win.
2nd Salili Nakamura Stables Fuentes Ru
Coming from gate nine this one needed some of the Nak Factor and as he closed up to challenge down the stretch it looked like the stable would be collecting another big win. The class of the winner out finished this one in the end but he is certainly emerging as a top turf sprinter and has all of his future in front of him.
3rd Pip Ferro John Henry Jaramillo E
He got way too far behind early on as can sometimes happen with a wide gate and the race engines determination to get a horse near the rail but he finished well enough to repay the stables confidence in buying him at the start of the month. Maybe an unlucky loser he looks like one to follow through the season.
4th Dawning Drei Oquinn Farm Gutierrez Mario
Another one hampered by the race engine he too finished like a rocket and was only beaten a length in the end. Second in the juvenile sprint last year he looks like he has trained on and will be fighting to get into the turf sprint this year come Breeders Cup time.
