NY Stallion Series- Park Avenue
AQU- For Fillies Three Years Old Foaled In NY
Six and a Half Furlongs on the Dirt
April 18, 2021
El Gran Condottieri came into the Park Avenue hoping for her second win after a run in the Grade 3 Honeybee was unsuccessful. It was the first time she had gone more than a mile, so on Sunday she figured to take a liking to sprinting again. That would certainly be the case, as she went on to HRP-rout the field, winning by three lengths. This filly is trained by Estero Farms, earning him his first win in the race. Her jockey, M Franco, has been a lot more successful here, winning for the third time in the last four years. Congratulations to them! The race was run in 1:15.35, the quickest of the runnings at six and a half furlongs. Let’s take a look!
(¼ Mile- :22.88)- It’s a good start for the Smokey Stover trained filly, Grazin At Sunrise, as she bursts out to a lead of approximately two lengths. Settling into the second position is our eventual winner, El Gran Condottieri, from Estero Farms. She rides the rail for now, with Hollywood Kate (Arindel) running in the outside lane, and Indecisive (Mb Stables) running between them. It’s then a long way back to the trailer, Southern Nites (Second Chance Farms).
(½ Mile- :45.79, Top of Stretch, 2F To Go)- Grazin At Sunrise continues to lead the field around the turn, but as they approach the exit of the turn, El Gran Condottieri cuts down on that deficit in a blink of an eye. She’s pulling to her outside by the top of the stretch, and with the ease of this move, you had to think it was over for the pacesetter. Neither Indecisive nor Hollywood Kate were able to run with her, either, and Southern Nites was still way out of it.
(Finish- 1:15.35)- There would be no surprise in the stretch as El Gran Condottieri blows by Grazin At Sunrise, and pulls away for an easy win. Grazin At Sunrise was still able to run well to the wire, despite not being able to run with the winner, and held on for second about as easily as El Gran Condottieri wins. The others didn’t do much in this race, but Indecisive gets a third place check, topping Southern Nites and Hollywood Kate.
About The Winner- El Gran Condottieri, trained by Estero Farms, and ridden to victory by M Franco, is a three year old filly by El Gran La Maison, and is out of Betty Condottieri. She was bred as a second quarter two year old by Running Farms, and acquired by Estero Farms in private sales for $35.000 in September 2020. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her second in seven starts, and it is her first stake win. Her career earnings are now $156.000.
