  6   CD    Regret (GIII)

$125.000    3yoF      1 1/8m  Turf   122lbs +penalties 

The sophomore fillies will be headed to the turf course for the Regret (GIII), a mile and a sixteenth sod stakes that seems to be an open affair.  I’ve covered three races this weekend and ended up on a Mb Stables horse in all three… Hawaii County is the choice here as she just never seems to run a bad race and looked good scoring vs. stakes company at AQU in her most recent.  I’ll take her to keep it going.  Another that seems to be on her toes is Ginger Shamanism.  When she gets to the front, she just never seems to give it up, so look for her to use her speed here today as well.  It’s an evenly matched group and I won’t be surprised by any outcome. 

Here’s The Field –

Ran a big race at a big price when third in the Edgewood (GII) at CD last out, where she closed a late chunk of ground to be third beaten a length at nearly 99/1 odds.  She has three wins from twelve starts, but that was her first test against this type and she certainly showed her ability in that last out race.  Give her a look

Consistent type that just never seems to miss a check.  She’s nine for ten lifetime and has a third vs. stakes company and a win vs OptAlw types at WO this year, so it just keeps pouring in.  No reason to think she can’t go with these and she got home in quick time last out.

Second in her first try on the green stuff last out, that was at GG facing OptAlw foes and she was closing fast in the late stages of that race.  She beat one horse in her only stakes try, but maybe she turns that around here today, and perhaps at a price. 

Per usual, the big barn comes with the gun loaded as this one doesn’t seem to run a bad race and looked good taking down stakes company at AQU last out, getting home by a length in quick time.  You know he doesn’t come into these hoping to run fourth, and this one certainly looks the part.  We may have our choice here.

This one certainly deserves a big look today, coming in off of a nice stakes score at GG where she pressed the pace throughout and got home by a nose.  She was fourth in the FL Oaks (GIII) in her only other start for this outfit after switching hands for a pretty penny… and she looks the part. 

She sure does seem to have this race horse thing figured out, breaking maiden and then coming right back to beat ALW horses, both of those down in Oldsmar.  She’s been close in all of her other races, and should be ready to step up in class here today. 

She won three in a row prior to that Edgewood (GII) flop at CD where she just never seemed to get going, trailing almost the whole way around.  Perhaps there was just something she didn’t like in that one and if she gets back to her prior form, it would make her a factor for this one. 

Big run last out going the marathon distance and taking the Santa Barbara (GIII) at SA.  She just got in front and kept going in that one, but I’m not sure that same tactic will work with these.  She certainly can go on with it, so, maybe…

She’s struggled against graded horses but bounced back off of those two duds by winning at TAM in her first try on the green stuff.  Was that just a class hit or does she love the grass that much?  I guess we find out today.
