Summertime Oaks (Grade 2)- $200.000 Purse
SA- For Fillies Three Years Old
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Dirt
May 30, 2021
A good race took place Sunday evening in the Grade 2 Summertime Oaks, featuring several fillies that ran in the KYO. At the end of the race, the top three spots were filled by those who did, but it would be Intolerable picking up the win. We had her as our pick and felt that as long as she was ready to run, that she would be able to take this field, but surprisingly, the bettors did not feel the same way. She went off at odds of 6/1, with four horses taking more money than her, so that was a little unexpected. If they were worried that she was due for a bad race, that would not happen here as Intolerable earns her fourth career win, and has never finished out of the top three. Mb Stables is her trainer, and he has been a regular sight in the winners circle here, taking the race for the fourth time. Ru Gonzalez is the winning jockey, his first time doing so in this stake. The time of the win was 1:41.91, the fourth quickest in race history. Here’s a look at it!
(¼ Mile- :24.06)- Ginger Lee jumps out to the early lead for Nakamura Stables, and she has some company in doing so in the form of Amuzing Code Party, who is out of Night Rider Stables. Sheza Hacker would crash the code party by the time they entered the first turn, and the Spankys Barn filly took over the second position. Behind the top three, the eventual winner from Mb Stables, Intolerable, is about two lengths from the lead and looking to take a hold of the fourth lane. Arindel’s Tall And Fast is one more lane over in the fifth position. Hot Summer (D J C Racing Stables) stays closer to the rail, taking the lane behind Ginger Lee. At the back, it’s Creepy Crawlies (Mb Stables) and Dord (Axeman).
(½ Mile)- Ginger Lee leads the field down the backstretch with Sheza Hacker being within a length to her outside. Amusing Code Party has dropped back just a little bit, fallen into the clutches of the group of initial stalkers. Hot Summer is the first of those ready to pass her, as Intolerable and Tall And Fast are not forcing the issue quite yet. Creepy Crawlies is starting to inch forward a little bit, and Dord is now running by herself at the back.
(Top OF Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- As the field completes the backstretch portion and moves into the turn, Hot Summer begins to move forward, taking advantage of the opening that is in front of her between Ginger Lee and Sheza Hacker. Those two pacesetters still maintain a decent stride, but Hot Summer is determined to make her move her, and by the time they hit the top of the stretch, she has pulled a half length in front of those two rivals. In fourth, we still have Intolerable, and she has held her line in the fourth lane, with Tall And Fast doing similar in the fifth lane. Each of them seemed to have a clear lane in front of them for the stretch to make a move if they had it within them. Creepy Crawlies was trying to get in the mix here too, but Amuzing Code Party was calling it a night. Dord had yet to show anything.
(Finish- 1:41.91)- In the stretch, Hot Summer initially looks very good, opening up a length lead and seeming to have enough to hold on until the end. Intolerable and Tall And Fast were cutting into the deficit, but the wire was coming up quick. In the dying moments, Intolerable had a little more push left in her, and showed strong desire to get up into the top spot as they neared the finish line. Tall And Fast did the same on her outside, but could not get by Intolerable. At the end, a strong late push for Intolerable to get this win, narrowly over Tall And Fast with Hot Summer settling for third. Sheza Hacker and Ginger Lee fade back into the fourth and fifth positions, beating Creepy Crawlies, Dord, and Amuzing Code Party.
About The Winner- Intolerable, trained by Mb Stables, and ridden to victory by Ru Gonzalez, is a three year old filly by Worst Case Scenario, and is out of Landing. She was bred as a yearling in California by Mb Stables, the only trainer for which she has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her fourth in 12 starts, her second stake win, and first graded win. Her career earnings are now $592.800.
