Threshold Sees “Twenty Twenty” in Cup And Saucer Stakes Win

10/10/21

4   WO      Cup And Saucer Stakes

$250.000      2yo  Foaled In CA   1 1/16m  Turf       120 lbs

I just couldn’t see anything getting past Twenty Twenty in Sunday’s Cup And Saucer Stakes at WO… coming off of that sharp win at KD, he just looked the part.  Well, it was a bit closer than I expected, but the Threshold trained monster got it done again, taking the mile and a sixteenth turf event by a neck in a final time of 1:40.25 over the firm course here in Toronto.  14/1 outsider Tsunkatse made it interesting, closing widest of all from far back to give the top choice a tussle, but the Alydar Stables trained chestnut had to settle for the second spot.  It was another quarter-length back to Bruddafrmanuddamudda with Techfluence Heat another length back in fourth.

Twenty Twenty is a 2yo bay gelding by Rogue Lawyer – Lover N War, by Love In Charge, and he was bred here in ON by his owner, Threshold.  This was his third win from four starts, his second win on the grass and he now shows earnings of $463.200.  I’d keep on eye on this one, he sure does seem to love the grass.   Congrats to the connections!

Twenty Twenty alert from the gate, taken back to stalk the pace, moved up to engage leaders 5p at the top of the lane, took lead nearing the sixteen pole, pressed to the wire, won driving.  Tsunkatse taken well off of the lead racing 3p, swung widest for the drive, gaining, just missed.  Bruddafrmanuddamudda raced mid-pack, began to move forward into the lane, split rivals three-sixteenths, out-kicked late.  Techfluence Heat broke alertly, up to take the clear lead after three furlongs, set the pace to the furlong marker, weary.  Private Dance trailed, late foot.  Mount Olympus ground saving trip while pressing the pace, tired.  Canadian Sunset was never involved.  Doctor Hastings rated early, up to race mid-pack into the lane, tired late.  Laughing War Dog broke well, speed for half, tired.
