Hollywood Capo is going back to Cali, Cali, Cali for the G1 BC Mile.  Utilizing a stalking trip, Hollywood Capo was the winner of a six-way photo in the G1 Shadwell Turf Mile at KEE on Saturday and he is now an automatic qualifier for next month’s championship weekend at DMR.

Utilizing their post positions and early foot, Roman Rage and Spiral, stalls two and one, respectively, broke alertly and jointly went to the front at the start.  Through an opening quarter mile in :23.41, Roman Rage held a length advantage over the horse to his inside.  About two lengths behind the place-runner, Hollywood Capo was running in the leader’s footsteps while Stealth Command was five-wide and running fourth.  Catch A Buzz, Darth Invader, and Call Me King were also in the stalking group.

Roman Rage had increased his advantage to a length and a half over Spiral when he reached the half-mile marker in :46.36.  Hollywood Capo and Stealth Command were virtually on even terms behind that pair while Call Me King made a bit of an early move to improve his position on the rail.

When they reached three-quarters in 1:09.29, Spiral was within a length of Roman Rage and Hollywood Capo was almost on even terms with the former.  Stealth Command was still taking the worst of it as he was still some five or six wide while running fourth.  Darth Invader wasn’t making life any easier for that runner as he made a run on his inside and pushed him a bit wider.

It was a mad dash down the KEE stretch as the horses became tighly packed approaching the wire.  In the end, the clock was stopped in 1:32.89 as the horses flashed by the winning post and the photo sign went up.  After several tense moments, the judges confirmed that Hollywood Capo had gotten to the wire first.  Roman Rage was just beaten a head for the win and held on for the place.  Just another short head back, Stealth Command had to settle for third.  In all, the top six horses were seperated by only about a length at the wire.  Completing the order of finish were Black And Red, Spiral, Darth Invader, Jakarta, Call Me King, Catch A Buzz, Commander Wellesley, Happy Outburst, Last City, Hollywood Command, and King Que Niagra.

With the G1 Shadwell Turf Mile win, Hollywood Capo (Capo Di Tutti Capi o/o Hollywood Fog) improves his record to 18-5-4-3 for earnings of $964.680 and he now has a date with destiny at next month’s BC.  Roman Rage ran a tremendous race to hold the place and earned six BC points which moved him into 12th position on the big board.  Maybe running the best race of the group, Stealth Command had to settle for third and the 4 BC points that came with it.

Congratulations to Hollywood Capo and Nakamura Stables for their victory in the G1 Shadwell Turf Mile and good luck to all going forward.
