3YO+ Fillies & Mares 121/124 Lbs

Track Record-1:07.79 (Carthagian-2004)

Stakes Record-1:08.95 (Grazin At Sunrise-2021)

Grazin At Sunrise entered Saturday’s G2 TCA on a three-race winning streak against overnight competition.  After she completed the 6 furlongs on the KEE dirt course in a new stakes-record time of 1:08.95, she exited on a four-race streak and punched her ticket to next month’s G1 BC Filly and Mare Sprint.

At the break, it was a four-horse mad dash for the front as Christina G made the pace from the three path.  She was joined up front by Roo and Hot Summer to her inside and First Impression on her outside.  That quartet had a 31/2 length lead over the duo of Truly Deeply Madly and Grazin At Sunrise when Christina G posted a :22.57 quarter.

Approaching the quarter pole, Christina G held a half-length advantage over stablemate First Impression while Roo and Hot Summer, rail and two path respectively, were being joined by Grazin At Sunrise in the five path.  Christina G posted a :45.26 half-mile as the field rounded the bend.

As they reached the furlong pole, Grazin At Sunrise hit the front and sputed away.  Christina G and First Impression were trying to keep pace, but Truly Deeply Madly and Princess Jasmine were both advancing.  Grazin At Sunrise hit the wire in 1:08.75 and was three lengths clear of a four horse scrum.  It took a photo finish to seperate the quartet; however it was First Impression who got the bob over Christina G for the place honors.  Truly Deeply Madly and Princess Jasmine were awarded fourth and fifth.  Completing the order of finish were Not A Big Deal, Roo, Viral Breakdown, Niagra Sunset, Hot Summer, Dialing, and Copper Mama.

Grazin At Sunrise is now an automatic qualifier for the G1 BC Filly and Mare Sprint and improves her record to 16-6-2-3 for earnings of $551.580.  First Impression was awarded four BC points and now sits in 9th position on the big board; well inside the body of next month’s field.  Christina G had to settle for the show and the two points that came with it; she is in 7th position on the big board and is safe.

Congratulations to Grazin At Sunrise and Smokey Stover on their victory in the G2 TCA and good luck in next month’s G1 BC Filly and Mare Sprint at DMR!
