On Saturday, seven older fillies and mares will contest the 8.5-furlong $200.000 G3 Endeavour BC on the TAM turf. While not a full field, the G3 Endeavour did draw a quality group that includes BC participant Ete Creek and graded winner Buckingham Palace. Here’s a look at all seven runners in The Endeavour BC-G3:
#1 Catnip Crusader (Czech Out Farms/J.L. Castanon 122): 4yo is a restricted stakes winner and is MGS-placed. Rail draw should allow her to save all of the ground, but she will likely start in the last flight as she likes to rally from well-off of the pace. She’s shown she can compete at this level; she just needs a number of things to go her way to best this group.
#2 All By Myself (TwinTowersRacing/P. Morales 122): 5yo has been a check-earner for certain, but she hasn’t bested a stakes field yet. Has enough speed to outbreak her rival on the rail and she should be up front with the pacesetters. If she can find that “killer instinct” this season, she can have a big year; however, you’d like to see some evidence of that before backing her with too much enthusiasm.
#3 Buckingham Palace (Smokey Stover/I.C. Wenc 122): If there’s a graded event in this division, you can bet this barn will have a strong contender in the mix. Graded-winner enters here off of a local allowance win and looks to be one of the ones, in here. Has enough early foot to be involved from the start, so expect to see her have every chance to be in front at the right time. Big chance.
#4 Narragansett (Our Athletes/Sa. Camacho 122): Another runner who has bested restricted stakes foes, but hasn’t conquered these types yet. 4yo does her best running when she can sit just off of the pace and this draw shouldn’t hamper those tactics. First race back from a 60-day freshening, so she may need one to fire her best, but there’s enough talent here to make her dangerous off the bench.
#5 Lost Goddess (Nakamura Stables/A.A. Gallardo 122): 5yo had a good, if not great, 2021 and this appears to be her favorite trip. Two graded tries saw her finish off of the board last year, but she took them a long way at SAR before ultimately falling a length short. Changed tactics in 4yo finale, so will be interesting to see how she attacks this group. Lot of positives, but she’ll need to put it all together to get home first against this bunch.
#6 Ete Creek (Gdp Inc/D.E. Centeno 122): G1 winner has been a bit of a hit-or-miss type throughout her career. When she brings her race, she can beat the division’s best, but she has made it difficult to predict when she is ready to fire. If she can find more consistency, this 5yo can be a force in this division. Saturday should give a pretty good indication if she’s ready to take that next step.
#7 Pure Motor (Night Rider Stables/R.A. Alvarado Jr 122): 6yo has gotten to this point the hard way as she has battled her way through lower levels to arrive here. Sharp win just a couple of weeks ago at FG and, if she’s ready to repeat that effort, she can play a major factor here. The short rest is a legitimate obstacle as she hasn’t been successful coming back this soon and any regression from her last makes her a non-factor. Tough call.
Final Analysis: Normally, this would be a stone cold 3-6 exacta box but we’ll say the 2 makes things interesting. 6-2-3 in The Endeavour BC-G3. Good luck everyone!
