The Fritchie Stakes – Grade III
7 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $250.000 Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up.
1st Starting Over TwinTowersRacing Gaffalione T
There was a smile on my face when the result went up after a photo finish to this race because once again TwinTowersRacing had left me red faced. This trainer pops up with these winners more often than i have winners at RIL and again today he brought home a 130/1 winner to beat the three best sprinters of the female ranks. It made me smile even more when her last run was in a 12 furlong turf race, some contrast to a seven furlong dirt race against BC winners. Such is life trying to work out form at HRP !
Traveling a little way back in a place she had no right to win from she kept grinding to the line and just got home by a nose in a thrilling finish which saw two lengths first to last.
2nd Dialing Angelos Stable Garcia Mar
I like this fillies chances as an outsider in this field and i thought i had it right as she went to the lead and held it right to the last stride but in the end she went down by a nose. A rapidly improving sort i think we will see her right through to the BC.
3rd Unspoken London Racing Franco M
With two BC winners in the race it was somewhat surprising to see her go off as a 1/10 favorite for this and when she broke in last place her fate looked sealed to be another one of those silly HRP favorites beaten a long way. To her credit though she pulled out and made an impressive late run which nearly came off as she only went down by two noses on the line. She will certainly be a flag ship filly for the stable and deserved so much more than the $5 profit she made for beating tow BC winners.
4th Slckmoment Laga Night Rider Stables Carmouche K
The big three of this one, Precise Performance and Top Billing all finished out of the top three which to be honest seems pretty crazy but that is how races tend to be at HRP. up one minute and down the next. Beaten less tan a length she looked to have had a good enough trip but in the end never really got to the first three and never looked like winner down the stretch. This was her first run of the year and as a top three year old she may just need time like so many do so there may be better to come down the line.
